Sam sipped his scotch, suppressing a sigh. He came to St. Catharine's to visit his sister and to get away from her. He knew he was running away but he couldn't deny his feelings anymore and watching her with Callaghan, knowing what they could have had, was taking a toll on his work.
So here he was, sitting in a bar in St. Catharine's because Sarah and her husband insisted on going out with "just the adults". The man sitting on the stage with his guitar was not helping Sam's mood. Sarah seemed to be enjoying the music but Sam knew that Adam, Sarah's husband, played guitar better than the man on the stage.
Suddenly there was a lull and then the singer began to talk. "This one is for my girl, I love you even though you ain't here tonight."

Great Sam thought. I came here to get away and now…these thoughts of Andy are plaguing me anyway. It wasn't her fault but no matter where he ran, she was in his thoughts.
There's no words to describe it
In French or in English
If someone asked him to describe how he felt about Andy, he didn't think he would be able to describe it. Andy was just Andy.
Well, diamonds they fade
And flowers they bloom
He didn't really think his feelings for her would ever fade, or even wane. He would just have to keep his motto of "best for her" and keep her from realizing how he felt.

Sam bit back a smirk. He didn't need this singer to tell him this. He knew the feelings for her would not go away.

They've been knockin' me out lately
His feelings for her had been "knocking him sideways"; they had been altering his decisions. Normally, when partnered he thought about his partner as an equal. With Andy, he subconsciously thought about keeping her as safe as possible, not always an easy feat with their job.

Whenever Andy was near him, these feelings surfaced. He couldn't help it. He just wished she would realize.

But these feelings won't go away
Time wouldn't take the feelings he had for her away. He had already figured that out. He just hoped that with time she would realize that Callaghan was not for her and she would come to him since they belonged together.
As the guitarist finished the song, Sam finished his scotch and motioned for another. He wasn't driving tonight and he needed something to drown out his sorrow that Andy McNally was not sitting next to him meeting his sister and her family.
