Knowledge is Power

"He knows." The words came simply out her mouth but Zoe knew the weight and consequences those words carried. Tess had confided in her all those months back when the problem of an affair and pregnancy were a problem of the moment and even once she'd found out it was in fact Fletch who was the man who both of these problems sparked from, they'd done a good job of keeping it out of his knowledge. But they'd not banked on the fact that he could and eventually would check her medical records.
Zoe got up from behind her desk and locked her office door, secluding Tess and her in her office.
"What did he do?" Zoe asked gently.
"He's hurt, he's hurting Zoe." Tess said as yet more tears threatened to fall from her already watery eyes.
"And you're still hurting too." Zoe pointed out. "Is there anything still between you?"
"No, I mean we aren't together and we can't be. He's having a baby Zoe. He obviously wasn't serious about me."
"Love isn't a walk in the park Tess, obviously I don't know how you're feeling but to me you're displaying all the classic signs of love."
"I don't know Zoe, I don't know if it was ever as serious as love."
"Do you want him back?" Zoe asked.
"Well if the circumstances were different."
"Tess it's a yes or no question."
"It's not that simple."
"But it could be..."
"This is irrelevant, what's important now is that he knows about the baby and hates me."
"But if you feel how you say you do then why is that important? Maybe that's what's good for both of you right now."
"The whole point in ending it when I did is so we stayed friends."
"Well then wait for him to calm down and then talk to him but while you're waiting try and figure out how you feel Tess."
