It seems I'm back, hoo boy. After a period of silence, I've decided to work on something else. I want to rewrite my other stories, but it's something that'll take time. In the meantime, I'll be focusing on my new baby here. If anybody wants to dream up a better title, please, be my guest. I'm terrible at the naming game!

Just a tiny, short little teaser prologue to get us started. Next chapter should be a decent length, and have some actual substance. Hope I don't bore anybody in the (hopefully) short wait in between. Also, looking for a beta reader! If anybody wants to field this fic, that'd be greatly appreciated.

Disclaimer: I own neither the world of Dragon Age (Origins, Awakening and II), nor BSSM. All characters and the world setting are copyright to their respective owners.

Warnings: M for violence, cussing, probably sexual themes later on. Femmeslash and het.

Prologue

When the world beneath your feet begins to crack and split, you've only got a few options. One, you can stand there and let the earth swallow you whole. The fall would be terrifying, but with any luck, there's something sharp and quick down below. Two, you can panic and jump - but who the fuck knows where you're going to land? And, of course, three. You can spend precious few minutes finding what's causing the rift, kill it, and run like hell. Sure, you'll probably die, but you're going to be the hero in the story.

And isn't that just what you've always wanted to be? A hero?

Of course it is. What child didn't dream of grandeur when their parents sat them down in their hut, in their castle, by their caravan or tent in the woods, as their mentors sat with them in the library - what child didn't dream of grandeur during these moments that their idols told them of heroes and villains? Fanciful tales to pique a child's interest, usually with some moral to the story or another. Tales of love, friendship, courage, morality, loyalty.

Stories that stayed with them a lifetime, repeated over and over again in their dreams as they became the dashing rogue, or the warrior with a heart of gold.

Nobody ever mentioned any kind of imperfection, and certainly, nobody had promised you there would be bumps along the road.

Alas, life isn't a fairytale.

The rise of Champions comes at a cost.

A short, teaser for a prologue. We switch to actually having a character next chapter, so hopefully that'll spice things up.

For those of you who have played Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II – this is kind of a halfway point between the two in terms of plot. Mostly, I'm borrowing the world and creating a setting that works for the amount of characters we're going to be dealing with. Hopefully I can pull it off!

Reviews are greatly appreciated.
