The darkly dressed man stood over the headstone, casting another shadow on the already dark day. Nothing, not a single thing, had any colour, not the flowers, or the sky, not even the man's eyes, which had once been so full of fire and life.
The man waited had until everyone else had left the cemetery, and now he was finally alone with his friend. Even though he was staring at his best friend, his gaze was unmet, and that was how he knew that he was truly gone. He put his hand in his pocket, feeling something cold and metallic touch his fingertips. Holding it tightly in his hand, he took it out.
"You were my brother," he said. "You did so much for me and the others... All the times that you had protected me, and I couldn't even return the favour when you needed it most." For the first time the man's vision became blurred by tears.
The man laughed to himself. "I know that we've been through a lot of hard times together." He clenched his teeth together, holding his breath for a moment, then releasing it, determined to keep talking. "But I never thought the hardest part would be saying goodbye." The man sniffed, his face was hot with tears now.
"I never… even imagined that the hardest part would be... saying goodbye."
The man took a few deep breaths, regaining some of his normality. "Do you remember the time we were fighting against each other? Man, I thought that was hard… but, now that I think about it… this is actually harder. At least I had you there with me to help me through it." He stared at the sky. It was clouding over, as if the heavens themselves were weeping.
"I don't know what I'm going to do without you." He put the small metallic object by the headstone, and it seemed to be engulfed by a sea of sadness. The man wanted nothing more than to cry his soul away, but he held the rest of his tears in. "I'll be strong for you bro. All of us will be." He raised his fist, a last salute to his fallen brother. "May the power protect you forever."
And, leaving the Red Power coin behind, Tommy Oliver reluctantly turned away from the grave of Jason Scott.
