AN: For Alexander's birthday! Happy birthday, Alexander! On another note, this story feels a little too modern to me, but I lost track of time and only started it yesterday. In spite of that though, I hope you all enjoy!

Hephaestion knocked gently on the outer door to his and Alexander's rooms, stepping inside carefully even when there was no answer from within. Immediately, he smiled and relaxed. His Alexander lay in repose in their bed, the early morning sunlight cascading across the bed and over his tanned, bare body and giving him a look of youth and innocence he had not had for many years.

When he could help himself no longer, Hephaestion went to the bedside and climbed onto the bed, being careful not to wake his Sun just yet. He leaned down and gave his Sun several slow, sweet kisses along the skin on his neck and face, his long bronze hair tickling the skin of his king's chest.

This was met with a grumble, "Phai, your-" Alexander gave a massive yawn, then went to turn to face his playful lover. It seemed that today would be a day where not much would happen, even though Alexander hated slowing down for anything, as he winced and hissed under his breath as he tried to move, "-your hair. Stop tickling me."

"You love me," Hephaestion chuckled, leaning down to kiss him one last time, this time on the mouth, "Joy to you, my love. I hope you have the best of days today. The gods were smiling the day you came into this world."

"Thank you, Phai, but I think-" he twisted his hips experimentally, then blanched and winced, his breath caught in his throat for a moment, "I do not think I can move much today. Stay in bed with me?"

"Of course, my love. Anything for you today," Hephaestion got underneath the covers, being sure to take his love into his arms and hold him close.

"I hate getting old. Who knew it would be my own body stopping me from conquering the world…"

"Well I for one love this body of yours, old or not."

"Not everyone has fay bones like you do, my beautiful Phai."

"Let me finish. And you know my mother was the one who had fay bones."

Alexander laughed, then winced. Everything hurt today, "Small but mighty, your mother."

Hephaestion hummed in agreement, then continued, "Now, as I was saying. I love you, no matter how old you get, no matter how many days we have to pass in bed because you are hurting. You are still my Sun, my lion, my Alexander, and I love you. Never forget that."

Alexander broke into a smile, laying his head upon his pillow once more, "You keep me young, my dearest Phai. You and your love. Thank you."

Hephaestion kissed his brow gently, "You are most welcome. Thank you for existing and being in my life. I love you. Happy birthday, my love."

AN: Just a quick note to say that "fay" was and is an old way of saying "fairy," and that's how it is used here. So Hephaestion has fairy, or delicate, bones like his mother. Just in case anybody was confused. Hope you all enjoyed!
