You stand in the middle of the lane, your forehead pressed to hers, your fingers laced together. Your eyes stare into her bright greens, the color so bright in contrast to the entire drab around you. Her breath on your lips sends shivers down your spine, a physical reaction that had nothing to do with the cold air. Your heart rapidly thumps in your chest, the muscle painfully constricting as her scent fills your senses. Your breath catches in your throat as she runs her hand up your arm. The warm appendage comes to rest on your hollow cheek, her thumb stoking softly. Your eyes slid closed as your own hand shakily comes up to her face, lightly touching her olive skin.
"We can't..." she breathes, placing her shaky slender hands on your chest.
Your eyes slowly open in sorrow. Your long lashes brush your cheek, sticking together with an unknown dampness. You struggle to slow the pounding within your chest, afraid that she'll feel it and disappear. She lightly applied pressure; physically acting like she wanted this to end, but emotionally, you knew she was tied to you. Your hand on her elbow pulled her to you, wanting nothing more than to stay here forever.
A ragged breath fell from your parted lips. Your eyes flicker to hers. You're screaming on the inside, restless with the impatient anger that formulated within your soul. You want to close that gap, but are unsure, now, if you should. As you're debating in your head, she senses your hesitation. Moving closer, she rises onto her toes. There's no longer an ocean between you. Her body is pressed against yours. Your eyes slide closed, the final inch disappearing with the slight turn of the head and her soft lips are on yours. Her hands grip the collar of your cloak, pulling you closer with each second.
"Sev," she says as she pulls away.
A crystalline tear fallows the dry path, watching as she turns her back and slowly makes her way up the lane. The sky decides it no longer holds its own tears and they come falling down onto your head, your lank hair plastering itself to your face. Mother Nature mourns for you herself.
