Afterglow
A callused finger trailing over flushed skin. Unhurried breathing, visible as little matching clouds in the cool air. His firm and warm chest at her back, arms loosely circled about her torso. Her nails absently combing through the golden hair on his legs, the legs that framed her body as they leaned against the wall. Giggling as he wiggled his toes against her thigh, as he reached down to brush his fingers against her cross-legged frame as he cradled her. Adjusted the thick blankets around them like a tent. The rain streaming down like a waterfall over the front of the cave. Catching the light from outside as it erupted in flashes, lighting the small space with an intermittent, eerie blue glow. Lips touching the soft skin of her neck as he waited for her to tense, as the wall shook with the rumble of the sky, as the flashes of eerie light came more frequently. Her nails continued to trace over his skin, tilting her head to the side. He nuzzled her softly, tracing a pattern up her arm, up her neck, and along the side of her face. She stayed relaxed in his arms, closing her eyes as she leaned back against him. And he grinned a bit, glad that their tent had destroyed, glad that they'd found this shelter for the night. Because for the first time all week – in his arms, in this cave, in this completely comfortable calm – she didn't tremble at the sound of thunder, didn't start at the bright flashes of light.
This was a response to a challenge at Quite the Couple. Let me know what you think... I think it's way too short, but I'm not used to these little scenes. So it really was a challenge, haha. Thanks for reading!
