Disclaimer: I do not own any of the rights to Macbeth and I am obviously not William Shakespeare.

This is a school assignment. We had to choose a character from the play and write a short story in their POV. This is all I have so far but it's due in four days so any criticism at all would be greatly appreciated!

Lady Macbeth's POV

He's not dead. A state of comfort eased my body and I allowed myself a moment of joy. The messenger continued on with his rant but I was barely listening.

I had been clinging to a single letter for three months. Reading it over so many times that the parchment was in its last days of life. My husband had left for war almost half a year before and we seldom had contact.

The messenger arrived at the mansion near mid day, and I feared for the worst. A soldier's wife perceives every emissary that comes along to notify them of their husband's demise. I walked slowly to the main room where my maid Isabelle told me the messenger was waiting.

My breaths were shallow and my knees weak. I hardened myself as I rounded the corner to meet him. He turned, looking straight through me. No man other than my husband had more than glanced my way. I was not like the other women of my time. I was strong, independent, not interested in my appearance or having a family. I like to think that's why Macbeth chose me.

With a quick glance at his clothing, I noted the king's crimson emblem sewn into the materiel above his heart. At least if my husband died they were informing me with class.

Fortunately that was not the case. The messenger mumbled something about Macdonwald and left, handing me a letter.
