Chapter 1: This Isn't Funny

"Roxas, it's Ollete. Want the phone? Or…?" the brunette in the doorway left the question in the air.

Roxas contemplated for a moment then waved his twin off. Within a few seconds he heard the other boy muttering, "he's sleeping, call him back later," in the other room.

Sora walked back into his brother's room and laid flat across the bed.

"You're a card y'know." he commented while staring at the deep blue carpeting.

"I just made that bed! And what do you mean?" Roxas asked, searching through his closet. Sora sat up and smoothed the area he had been laying on half-heartedly.

"You and these girls. One day, you're gonna fall in love." the older twin stated seriously. Roxas scoffed. "Seriously! You are! And you'll regret it once you get 'The Rep'" he continued and air-quoted. The blonde glared.

"What is 'The Rep'? Some stupid thing you made up?" he asked sarcastically.

"No. It's what players get, like Riku." Sora responded, crossing his arms.

"No, it's what idiot that purposely fail the entire grade get because they didn't want to 'rush and grow up'" Roxas said, trying not to laugh at the pure dismay on Sora's face.

"Everyone was talking about how hard high school would be! Sixth was easy! I just wanted to take things slow and mature first. I am in the right grade now." the boy huffed with a smug smirk.

"Yes, right for after you flunked." Roxas said. The room was silent for a moment before Sora's gazed dropped down in realization.

"Oh, yeah…"

The bass rattled the blonde's ears as he walked into the building with his brightly red haired best friend.

A girl walked by in a tank top and short shorts and said redhead whistled.

"Oh how I do love the summer." he said wandering away. Roxas just shook his head and continued on. Axel always left him at parties, he wasn't really the 'bros before hoes' type.

"Yo, Roxas." another blonde called from not too far off. He was standing with a very pretty blonde who looked slightly uncomfortable.

"What's up, Hayner." Roxas greeted back.

"Nothing much. My cousin is here. Just came in from Radiant Garden. I'm basically in charge of her so she had to come. Come meet her!" Hayner demanded more than asked and pushed passed people to get back to the girl.

Roxas went along after him, deciding not to argue.

"Namine, meet Roxas. Roxas, meet Namine." Hayner introduced.

"H-Hi." Namine said quietly, looking at the ground and very grateful that her blush couldn't be seen.

"Hey." Roxas said back.

Hayner beamed at the two like a proud mother as they looked away from each other awkwardly.

"I'm… gonna go find Axel now…" Roxas said, already turning to leave.

"No way, you're staying here. Me and Nams could use the company, right?" Hayner asked. Namine glanced up, still looking slightly fearful. Roxas knew that look Hayner had, he was trying to get out of doing what he was supposed to do in order to do what he wanted to do.

Somehow within the brief hesitation, he found his golden opportunity.

"Oh, I have to go do something. Be right back."

With that, he ran off, leaving the two blondes in shock.

"He… has nothing of importance to do, does he?" Namine asked with slightly sadness. Roxas could only bring himself to shake his head. "Well, that's okay. You seem like a nice guy. I'm sure we can have fun, right?" she asked with a smile.

It was then that Roxas actually took in all of her features. She was slightly shorter than him with long blonde hair and breath-taking periwinkle eyes.

His hair thumped in an unfamiliar way that startled Roxas and reminded him of his twin's earlier words. If this was the world's joke, it wasn't funny.

"Um yeah, we can."
