A dream

Grant Ward is half-asleep and half-awake. Grant Ward is dreaming.
Out of the chthonic darkness emerge clawed hands and brawny arms. They reach for the sky, where the moon is shining, with Skye's face upon it, and tear it down, down, into the billowing flames and dark smoke.
Skye shot him.
Skye is his enemy now.
He must kill her.
Grant cannot. Not really, not even after being shot. There is darkness in him, a familiar darkness, and it is rising once more. Killing his family off helped Grant deal with that, but Skye has shot him, and the being who Grant Ward is, who he had become, will not let it go.
Skye-Mary-Sue-Daisy has shot him.
She must die; it is as simple as that.
And yet, there is a part of Grant that says 'no' to this simple logic, something that wants to claim Skye as his, to strive to be a better man, who is really worthy of her.
The black bile inside Grant's metaphorical gut just simmers in anger and points out that Skye has shot him, and if Grant harbors any illusions about her still, then he is a fool and deserves to fail, and Grant twitches, as he dreams at the border between dreams and reality, as he thinks...
"Everything all right?" agent 33, formerly of S.H.I.E.L.D., now, perhaps, of Hydra, stares at Grant from his side, gazing at him with the mutilated – and stolen - face of Melinda May, her own gaze dark from the bloody desires of a revenge of her own.
"Yes," Grant nods, petting agent 33 on her head – the woman is lost as he is, perhaps as crazy as he is, and has not been cut adrift by S.H.I.E.L.D. She is the closest ally he currently has, and what else Grant has is about 20-25 percent of a new plan. "Everything is fine. We will strike against S.H.I.E.L.D. soon enough."
Agent 33 smiles with Melinda May's lips. It does not really become her, but Grant does not mind. They will strike against S.H.I.E.L.D. soon enough.
And Skye? Grant does not know what will become of her, is not sure that he wants to know what will become of her, does not want to think about her.
Maybe he will give Skye over to her father at last.
Who knows?
End
