Author's note: This story is a bit shorter than my other story. I am sorry for that, but I REALLY wanted to write something like this for a very long time. That is to say, a Kaelat Hurt/Comfort fanfic and a fanfic where I show my theory about how the two met. Originally, I wanted to make the comforted character be Kaeloo with the "comforter" being Mr. Cat, but this works too, through I would still like to write something like that.
Without any further ado, I hope you enjoy the story.
"Welcome to Smileyland
Population: 3."
So said a wooden sign that was just randomly shoved into the ground. A disheveled young tomcat was looking at it for a while, before entering. He looked around the place. It seemed so quiet, so peaceful.
The cat took a deep breath and smiled. The tranquility of the place almost bought him to tears, especially when he compared it to his now former "home".
However, this didn't last long, as a little frog wearing a pink bow suddenly popped up right in front of him.
"Hello there!" she shouted right into the tomcat's face. However, his only "answer" was an angry, disappointed expression.
"Hmm, not much of a talker, I see." the frog continued. "That's okay, I am sure we can still be great friends! My name is Kaeloo. What's your name?"
"Why don't you just piss off and leave me alone…? I came here because I've heard that almost nobody lives here. I am going to translate that to you: I don't want to talk to anybody right now." the cat finally replied. Kaeloo didn't know how to respond to that. When her two friends, a squirrel named Stumpy and a duck named Quack Quack, came to Smileyland, sure, they weren't exactly able to match her enthusiasm, but they were still polite and friendly enough. But this cat obviously didn't want anything to do with her.
Kaeloo took a long look at the young feline in front of her. It wasn't exactly a pretty sight: he had small, but painful looking wounds on his chest and arm, purple circles around his eyes, crooked whiskers, discolored, dirty fur, shaky arms and legs and visible ribs. However, his eyes were a completely different story - even through they were partly closed, Kaeloo could still see their bright, crimson color and how innocent they made this otherwise sketchy cat look. She felt as if she could get lost in them…
"Are you okay? Do you need any help?" she asked.
"I am fine, you dumb frog, I don't need your help…" the cat said, only to collapse on his knees. Kaeloo felt similar to how she felt when Quack Quack - who, when he was really young, was experimented on by cruel scientists - came to Smileyland. She just had to help him, no matter what he was saying. Without thinking, Kaeloo wrapped her arm around the cat's back and helped him get back on his feet.
"Ugh… I don't need your help…" the cat said, even through his body language didn't show any desire to protest. Then again, he was fairly weak at that point, so even if he wanted to, it's hard to say if protesting was even something he was capable of.
The frog and the cat slowly made their way towards a couch that was just randomly there in the middle of the land. Kaeloo helped the (possible) new resident sit down. That's when she realized that he was moaning in pain. Kaeloo's discomfort was growing stronger - it was so hard to look at him, but she had to help him.
"Wait here." Kaeloo said and ran away, only to return in just a few seconds with a first aid kit. She opened it, took out a piece of cloth and poured a sort of antiseptic cream on it. "Be still, this may sting a little, but it's good for you." she explained and slowly applied the cloth onto the cat's arm.
"OUCH! Could you be more careful?!" the cat shouted and jerked his arm away.
"I told you it would sting." Kaeloo said in a slightly irritated tone, pulled his arm towards her and put the piece of cloth back on his arm
"...why are you helping me? You don't even know me." the cat quietly asked.
"Because citizens of Smileyland have to stick together, silly."
The cat sighed and looked at the frog. He couldn't help but be almost hypnotized by her gentle eyes and smile. Nobody ever smiled at him the way she did, not even his own mother. This "stupid" frog was showing him more empathy and kindness than his own family. Heck, it was members of his "family" that caused him to look like he did. And this was despite the fact he was treating her with contempt. Even her voice radiated with kindness and positivity. She had a soft lisp, which actually added to her, dared he say it… "cuteness"? And now that he was looking at her, he couldn't help but feel… something.
Was it "joy"? Something he thought didn't actually exist? It was the first time in a long time he felt… good and all he could think about was how alien that was.
"So, do you want to stay here, or are you just visiting?" Kaeloo asked and hoped with all her might that he would answer with former.
"Y-Yeah, I actually came here because I wanted to live here. So, I am staying here." the cat replied and smiled for the very first time. Kaeloo almost melted after seeing his smile - despite everything, it was really sweet and genuine. But most importantly, the idea of a new friend living in Smileyland was something she always looked forward to.
"Yippee, I am so happy to hear that!" Kaeloo shouted and hugged the cat. This was another new one for him - someone making a physical contact with him, not because they wanted to hurt him, but just because they were happy to have him around. The cat closed his eyes and wrapped his own arms around this kind, adorable frog. After a while, Kaeloo decided to let go, even through both of them wanted it to last longer. "Hey, could you tell me your name now?" she asked.
"It's Lu-" the cat said before stopping himself. "Mister Cat. Just call me Mister Cat. And yours is Kaeloo, right?"
"Hahaha, yes!" Kaeloo replied. Even through she told him her name just a few moments ago, she was still mildly surprised that he remembered her name.
"So, does this place have any rules, or something?"
"Hehe, of course, but there are only four main ones: Rule number four, be nice to everyone. Rule number three, don't hurt flowers. Rule number two, don't say swear words. And rule number one, have fun!"
"Right. And what happens if I break them?"
Kaeloo became nervous when she heard Mr. Cat's last question. "Uh… you might… you might get hurt. So just… follow the rules… and everything is going to be fine…" she said, her voice shaking from fear.
"Okay. That shouldn't be too hard."
Kaeloo put the cloth on Mr. Cat's chest and held it in.·Just then, a red squirrel holding a video game console came into Kaeloo's field of vision. Too distracted by his game, the squirrel accidentally stepped on a pink flower, which made Kaeloo burn in anger on the inside.
"STUMPY!" she shouted as her soft, gentle voice became deeper and more booming. Her entire body became stronger and she turned into a toad that was basically just a mountain of muscles. The toad jumped over the couch and picked the squirrel up by his neck. Mr. Cat couldn't believe what he just saw and he just started staring at the toad's well-built body and her passionate expression. He almost wanted to be on "Stumpy's" place, just to get closer to that beauty.
Kaeloo realized what was going on and turned back into a cute little frog. She looked at Mr. Cat, mistaking his amazed expression to the one of fear. "Great, I just met him and he already knows what a monster I am on the inside." she thought to herself.
"Mr. Cat, I am so sorry, I am so sorry you had to see that." said Kaeloo. She was on the verge of tears. "This is what happens when you break the rules. That's why I don't want you to break them, I just don't want to hurt you, it's horrible. Please, promise me that you will be good, I would hate it that monster did something to you."
"No, it's okay, I understand." the feline said as he tried to make his stupidly amazed face disappear and turn it back into a frown.
This was the very moment when he realized that following the rules was going to be harder than he thought.
Author's note: Hey, it's me again.
I just wanted to talk about something. This doesn't really have to do anything with THIS story, it's about Let's Play Camping. I am sorry, but I don't know any other place where I could talk about this.
I noticed that there were some people who wanted a "sequel", but honestly, I always meant that story to just be a one-shot and I don't know what exactly you want me to do. So no, I don't think there's going to be a sequel, I am sorry. I hope you understand. MAYBE if I'll think of something I'll do it, but not now...
Anyway, that's all. Bye!
