"So basically I can use my chakra to hold the fire onto my katana? That's what you're saying right?" I asked holding my katana in one hand and an unlit candle in the other.

"Theoretically." Kazue, my co-leader, stood beside me, ready to light my candle. "My belief is that if you hold both your katana and the source of the fire in your hand, you can then channel your chakra through both."

"How do I get the fire onto the blade itself? I hope you're not implying that the fire must travel over me?"

She scoffed. "Yes Ranori, cause I'm trying to kill you off!" She laughed for a second longer before shaking her head. "But no. You're going to make sure that the entire blade is filled with your chakra, save for maybe an inch or two near the hilt just in case. After that, you'll touch the flame to your katana and try to use your chakra to bring the flame onto it. It you spin your chakra in a circular motion, then the fire should follow." She hesitated. "Theoretically of course."

I sighed. "I hate when you say that. It's just like saying 'what's the worst that can happen'."

Kazue put her hands on her hips. "I'd never say that! However, if you did want to know what the worst is it's probably spontaneous combustion. Nothing too bad."

"Oh no, nothing bad at all!" She laughed at my sarcasm. I calmed myself, getting ready to move my chakra. I started by trying to clear all negative thoughts. I focused on my surroundings. We were standing on a small river, maybe fifteen feet across, in case I did burst into flames. The wind was pretty much dead, aside from a chilling breeze that floated by every once in awhile. The day itself was warm, a nice summers day. I nodded, and Kazue lit the candle.
Putting my chakra into my katana was easy, I've done it before. Putting chakra into my katana vastly increases its strength and power. Putting chakra into the flame itself was a whole nother story. The flame kept moving. I couldn't get a complete grasp on it. Should I just try anyways? Or should I stand here until I can maybe get ahold of it. I settled with the former. What was the worst that can happen right?

So I did it. I touched the flame to the blade. I heard Kazue scream. At first I felt excitement, assuming that I succeeded...

...And then I felt the burn. I screamed, dropping my prized katana and the candle. The arm that had held the candle was engulfed in flames. I couldn't think. I just freaked out. Kazue jumped in, tripping me, which caused the chakra in my feet to dissipate, making me quickly fall beneath the water.
