"This can't be happening." She murmured as she lay next to him on the bed.

"Shhh. It's ok." He stroked her hair, comforted just be the feel of her warmth.

She propped herself up on one elbow, and looked at him, eyes shining. "We can't lose you, Lucas. I can't lose you."

"Yes you can. You are stronger than anyone I know. And I am so lucky to have found you."

"But all the time we could have had…I'm sorry."

"Me too, but the only thing I regret is that I have to leave you."

"Please…Lucas, don't talk like that. We'll figure it out, someone will know what to do-"

"We both know that's not true. I've accepted what's happening. I'm ok with this, and I want you to be too."

"I can't, and I won't. I…I wanted to share everything with you. I want to have your babies, and I want to grow old with you…" She trailed off, her voice growing shaky.

He took her hand in his, and brought it to his mouth. She brushed his lips with her finger tips, knowing that it was probably the last time. "Just promise me one thing." He said.

"Anything for you." She managed to choke out.

This drew a smile from him, rare in these last few months. "Stay with me until the end."

"Nothing could take me away from you."

"You know I love you, don't you?"

She nodded, and curled up next to him. "I know."

Together they lay on the bed, just being together. She rested a hand on his chest, feeling him breathe. He buried his face in her hair, taking in her smell, wanting to stay this way forever. She closed her eyes, and knew that this what was people searched all their lives for. They stayed that way for what seemed like an eternity, until his breathing came at longer and longer intervals, and finally the machines stopped beeping.

She sat up, and looked at him for a moment. She had never seen him look so peaceful. She hoped that someday they would get a chance to be together again. "I will always love you." She whispered, kissing him gently on the forehead. Brooke Davis Scott did not cry often. But she cried then.
