Each section or station of the Ark has an unofficial leader, dealing with the little spats that the council just has no time for. Who bring issues to the council for their people, and who maintain the harmony in each section or station. In Section Thirteen, the sector others fear as being unlucky and full of wild reckless people. Our people perform many different tasks on the Ark. We all know about the air shortage on the ark. One of our mechanics was working when the issue was brought to light, and though he was sworn to secrecy he immediately went to our leader. Not one of the adults has been able to find a solution, and there are whispers from my mother's spies that the council needs to send people down to find out if the Earth is survivable. They plan to send children, prisoners at that. We think it's wrong.
My mother is planning for our station to go down. With or without permission of the council. We've been hoarding supplies and rations, and preparing everyone in the section for what the fall will be like. Tonight when she is meeting with the council we are having one of our best hackers go into the control room, with the assistance of two of our guards and another volunteer. They will barricade themselves in and put in the codes to seal Section Thirteen. Then we will all secure ourselves as quickly as possible. We will have nine minutes to prepare. Section thirteen is the most cramped section, two hundred and thirteen people yet truly only enough space for a hundred and twenty-five. Without the five sacrificing their lives for this to happen we will have only two hundred and eight.
Our Section however, could not be left without leadership. There was a vote, and since there was no law that could make the new leader be over eighteen as there had been before, they elected her daughter. Myself. Two of the others staying behind were her advisors, and they have too been replaced without the council's knowledge.
In the council room
Kaida Mathisen stood before the now enraged council, Marcus Kane slammed his fists upon the table. "Not only should you be floated for having this information, whoever gave it to you should be also. You should be floated for that suggestion, and if you are telling the truth about your section knowing the truth... Well then, we may have no choice in what to do with the either." Kaida calmly pulled her long dark hair from its ponytail, revealing a small device that had been hidden within.
"Well, then you will be grateful that I have taken the burden of making any choices in the matter from your hands," Kaida pressed the button and down the hall from the tech room a small specialized group began to move and in Section 13 the people prepared themselves, "You see, as I speak you now, there are people who are preparing Section 13 to head to the ground. You will have no power to stop this. In less than nine minutes what I have decided will take place, will take place. I would like to go to my holding cell now, please." Upon the councils's orders Kaida was roughly escorted to her cell and thrown in. Where she waited calmly, knowing what would soon come to pass.
With the Guards and Hacker
They took off full pace towards the door from their hiding spot when the little red light started to flash, the guards holding their makeshift shields in front of them to stop the hail of fire from the men guarding the door. When they were close enough the volunteer vaulted over the shield and knocked both guards unconscious. Together the four members of the team busted into the room, removed the three technicians quickly to the hall, and barricaded the door just as they heard more guards begin to reach them. Tyler stared at the keys, and then looked at the guards holding the door, "Radio Amakaida and tell her that I' sending them down in five minutes. We don't have time to give them. And, tell the little brat to keep it together." Tyler tuned out the guard as he radioed Amakaida for him, and then turned his attention the keys again. Within thirty-five seconds he had Section Thirteen's entrance hatch sealed. It took him two minutes and about fifteen seconds to finish sealing everything off. He aligned the thrusters as quickly as he could, and prepared to hit the button to detach Section Thirteen. "Throw me the radio."
"Alright Kai, let's do this. One minute and ten seconds, left. Anything you want to say?" He could tell she'd been crying, she was so angry at him for choosing to do this.
"Yeah, I hate you, you jerk. You were supposed to lead, not me."
"Well, things don't always work like they're supposed to kid."
"Tyler, I'm losing you ,mom, and Damon all at once. I already lost Papa. Tiffany's all I've got left, and she's already hurt. She might not make it."
"Hurt? How?" It took her a few seconds to respond, and he could here the fear and shame in her voice.
"A couple guards somehow heard what was going to happen before you sealed us off, we killed them and pushed them back through as it closed. She was hit."
"Gods, it'll be okay. You can tend to her on the ground. Thirty-five seconds." He heard Damon call to him from the door, "Have her tell my sister I love her, and that I'm gonna miss her every second I still breathe." He relayed the message quickly. They had maybe fifteen seconds.
"She loves him too. She's gonna miss having a twin. I love you too Damon, and you Tyler. You guys too Mark, Lacy. You're the best, and I'm gonna make sure you're remembered for this. Tiffany says not to worry, she's gonna make it out of spite because someone needs to be there when I turn thirteen in a few months. We'll miss you guys. May we all meet again." Tyler sometimes forgot how perfect she was at counting time, because she finished just as he hit the button to disconnect. He knew she wouldn't hear, but he whispered the sentiment back as did the others.
He joined them in holding the door, they had to make sure there would be no time for the Ark leaders prove any points. A few minutes later they were all willingly in custody, and Tyler stared out of the window of his holding cell the entire night. He too was gonna miss them with every breath he had left. No one had ever had a better trainee than he had in Amakaida. The kid was soft hearted, yeah. The sweetest thing you'd ever meet, even kinder than her father had been. Yet that was what made her the perfect choice for this.
See, when some people lead they seem to lead for their people. Yet in reality they lead for themselves, for keeping their people going gives them some of gain. Amakaida though, would gladly slit her own throat for her people. Whether she realized it or not. The people loved her because they knew she would never betray them for her own best interest. She didn't know what her own best interest was. He was meant to take over when her mother retired in a few years, and he had been training her daughter to take over for him in a few years when she was old enough. He hated having to thrust the title upon her, and he hated sending his people down unarmed as they had. Only makeshift knives and swords, because there was no way they were getting guns for them.
When they came for him he did not fight, he was to be floated, and he did so with only one regret in his life. Not stopping Damon from volunteering, but they couldn't float him yet. No matter how much they wished to, because he was only fifteen. But he would regret it for the entirety of eternity wherever he ended up, because he was leaving Amakaida more alone than was fair. He only hoped they still sent the delinquents down, and Damon would be among them. The air in the chamber was gone suddenly, and he felt nothing as he meet his end in the abyss of space.
