A/N: Set during New Moon when Edward leaves Bella. *braces for screams of horror* Mara and Patrick are made up by me, so don't worry if you can't find them in any of the books. One-shot.
Disclaimer(s): Stephenie Meyer and Meg Cabot own Twilight and 1-800-WHERE-R-U respectively.
Alice's POV:
Who was the girl? I could sense she knew where Edward was. Yet I couldn't get a clear vision. Perhaps her own powers masked her? But she wasn't a vampire...or was she? No, from what I could tell, she was most certainly human. How strange.
Jess's POV:
I woke with a start. Now that dream had been weird. Of course, I'd dreamt about a missing person, except that this missing person looked so...different. Was that even the right word? Oh, whatever. The point was that some guy named Edward was in Italy. Guess I'd be making another call to 1-800-WHERE-R-U. As usual, I dialed from a pay phone. For some reason, it rang on. And on. And on. I was about to give up when someone answered.
"1-800-WHERE-R-U. Mara speaking." Mara? This must be a new employee. Good. That meant she didn't know about me and my abilities.
"I'd like to report a missing person. He's in Italy." I gave the Mara girl the address. There was scratching, then a long pause. I was getting impatient.
"Person's name?" Mara sounded bored.
"Edward Cullen." I replied. There was a thud from the other end of the line, but I just shrugged and hung up. I had more important business to attend to. Such as my date with Rob.
Mara's POV:
I scanned the room. Coast clear. All the other employees had gone on their lunch break. Finally! Sure, I felt kinda bad about using the WHERE-R-U phones for my own purposes, but my parents had forbid me from any means of cellular communication after the, well, incident last year. How else was I supposed to keep in touch with my boyfriend? So, I went ahead and picked up the phone, hands trembling. I took a deep breath, then closed my eyes and dialed the number I now knew by heart.
"Hi, it's me." I said.
"Hey, beautiful." All my regrets melted at the sound of his voice. Patrick's voice. I sighed dreamily. We chatted for a while, but suddenly Call Waiting beeped. I ignored it. If it was urgent, they could call back. Then it beeped again. I sighed, but continued talking. Once again, it beeped. My resolve was weakening. What if the boss came back from his break and heard me talking to someone who was obviously not calling about a missing person? I'd probably get fired. I broke into a sweat. If I was fired from another job...I shuddered to think of what my parents would do. Ground me from seeing Patrick, probably.
"I have to go." Mournfully, I let him say good-bye. The phone rang.
"1-800-WHERE-R-U. Mara speaking." I said.
"I'd like to report a missing person. He's in Italy." the caller said. Then she gave me an address, which I wrote down. I sighed softly. This was such a boring job. It wasn't like anything interesting ever happened. I'd heard some rumors about a psychic girl who called regularly, but then again, rumors were rumors.
"Person's name?" I asked.
"Edward Cullen." the caller replied. What?! From the Twilight series? But that was fictional, right? Was this some sort of sick joke? Or was it payback for my bad deed? I was feeling a little lightheaded. With a groan, I slipped off the chair and everything went black.
Alice's POV:
Now there was an unconscious girl involved. I could tell that she knew about Edward, too, just like the first person. This just kept getting weirder and weirder...
