The Fire
As Linda opens up her closet, she sees her beautiful white dress and puts the back of her hand on it; she feels the silky material and the hard beads. "Linda", her mother says. "Your fiancé is waiting for you". Linda closes her closet and runs downstairs. She turns her head and sees her fiancé, Chris Gardner, wearing a burnt shirt and pants, with a sad look on his face." How are you Chris," Linda says. "Um, not too good, there has been a fire at the elementary school where I work", Chris says "I'm sorry, so are you ready to pick a place to get married at?" "I found a really…" Chris cuts her conversation and says "I said there has been a fire at the school, people have died", and your still thinking about yourself, the wedding is going to have to be moved until everything gets better". Linda pushes Chris outside and slams the door in his face. Chris heads back to the school. As he's on his way he sees a little boy sitting by the tree with his head down. Chris heads toward his direction. Once he reached the boy he kneels down and sits next to him." Having a bad day"? Chris asks. The little boy puts his head up and Chris can see tears coming down from his hazelnut eyes. The little boy says" I saw all of it, my mommy and daddy gave away their life for me". With a worried face Chris asks what happened. The little boy wipes away the tears from his cheeks and says "mommy and daddy were at a meeting at the elementary school …." At that moment Chris understood everything and hugs the little boy. The little boys breathe got harder and harder until the boy feel unconscious. Chris holds the boy and runs to the nearest hospital. Once they reached the hospital, the doctors put the little boy on a stretcher and rushed down to a room with a sign over it reading "Emergency". Chris sits down on a seat next to the room, and after a while a doctor comes out and asks Chris if he's the dad of the little boy. Without thinking Chris answers yes and the doctor tells him that Christopher has asthma. The doctor walks away and Chris sits down thinking. "So his name is Christopher" After a couple of days Chris gets a call from the hospital saying that Christopher can be picked up at noon. Before going to the hospital Chris stops by at Linda's house and explains to Linda why he hasn't called. She says, "I could have got any other man but I chose you"! Chris trying to keep calm tells Linda about the little boy and that he wants to adopt him, she seemed reasonable and had only one condition. Her one condition was for her and Chris to get married faster and Chris agreed. Both of them went to get Christopher together. On the way home they explained to Christopher that they wanted to adopt him and surprisingly Christopher agreed. Ever since then they all lived as on happy family.
