He hadn't felt like this before, it was something new and something he wished he didn't have to experience. Was it guilt? Was it regret? Ozai was known by many as heartless, but he was far from that. If there was one thing he loved it was his wife and although he didn't let it show, his children as well.
There had been a few weeks since he let her go, his beloved wife. At first he was fine, he didn't care at all, but as the time passed he started to miss her more and more. It wasn't the same without her. The nights without her sleeping by his side were starting to become harder and harder to bear. It wasn't the same for sure and he was not ready for a life without her.
Forgetting her seemed impossible back then but as weeks, months and years passed, the time did its work and the fact that she wasn't there with him anymore didn't bother him that much. Zuko stopped asking about her after a while and he wasn't forced to ignore him or tell him lies anymore. He realized he had a nation to rule and a war to win. All these things were taking him mind away from her, the woman he loved so much.
Everything seemed to go right as more years passed and Sozin's comet was approaching. Yet, he was defeated and put in prison by his own son, not that he was surprised at all. After all he had done to him it was obvious that he would end up there. He had time to reflect, to meditate, to think about the past. And sadly he had to remember some things he didn't want to at all.
He started to miss her again, he was starting to wonder. Was she even alive anymore? And if she weren't it would be all his fault because he let her go than night. Nightmares and worries started to haunt his mind until one day, a person entered his cell. He looked up and saw a familiar figure, a female figure to be precise. A smile appeared on his face when the woman took off her hood and looked down at him. "Hello Ozai." It was her, his long lost love. For a second he thought he was dreaming.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Yeah, I know this is a really really short chapter but it's more of a prologue. The ones that will come will be longer :3
Also before any of you say 'This is so ooc for Ozai, he's heartless, haven't you read The Search' or other stuff like that.
Yes, I have read the search and it's not canon for me. I've spent over a year developing Ozai as a character through roleplaying and writing long before The Search came out and I'm not gonna throw away all that character development and all my headcanons because of what Gene Yang wrote. So forget The Search ever existed while reading this. Thank you.
