Just a little something I wrote on the train to my grandparents house. I hope its alright, I haven't done anything in this style before.
It started out as a little character study, and then turned into an angst fest… I'm still not sure how that happened. Well, no more of my waffling, I hope you enjoy this :D
DISCLAIMER: Yeah, I don't own it. I'm not cool enough :(
Being the vessel for the Kyuubi gave Naruto many advantages in battle. His stamina increased; as did hid speed and strength, and his chakra reserves were immense. Of course, it also meant that he was hated and demeaned by the villagers of Konoha, but he tried not to think about that.
But his favourite advantage was the improved senses he received, specifically smell. Not only did this allow him to 'sniff out' his enemies, but he was also able to 'smell' other people's chakra. This had become a sort of hobby of his, and the fact that he spent most of his time with Team 7 meant that he was able to describe their chakra scent better than his other acquaintances.
Sakura, he had decided, was lavender. A small stalk of it had only a faint scent, but when lots of it grows together it can overpower most other smells. This seemed to him to fit Sakura's personality perfectly. She seemed weak, and yet when she needed to fight her skill seemed to grow dramatically.
After some consideration with Kyuubi, Naruto had decided that Sasuke's scent was that of rain, which Naruto found quite amusing, considering Sasuke's knowledge of fire jutsus. At first… sniff, the scent of rain could feel quite unpleasant and off-putting, but stick around and it became refreshing. This too seemed to fit Sasuke's personality; his rudeness and antisocial cover was successful in driving away potential friendships, but if you hung onto him, didn't let him shake you off, his refusal to sugar-coat things became as refreshing as the rains that washed grime from the rooftops of Konoha.
It had taken some time for Naruto to agree with Kyuubi's assessment of Kakashi as chocolate. But after watching him closely, he had begun to see the fox's point. Kakashi seemed to have as many sides to him as the infinite variety of chocolate available. If you tried to hold on to him too tightly, he would melt away; like proper, creamy white chocolate Naruto's teacher required careful handling. And just as many people used chocolate to blunt the edges of sorrowful times, Kakashi was there to deflect the hateful whisperings the older generations directed at Naruto.
And sometimes, when he couldn't keep the nightmares away, he saw himself destroying them. Saw the heat and fire of his chakra attacking them until Sakura's confidence burned away to nothing more than sickly smelling smoke, saw the parts of Kakashi that stubbornly found precious people to hold onto and protect simply melt away, saw the love and friendship Sasuke tried to lock away be heated until they evaporated to nothing. He could see himself destroying them until they were nothing more than the weak intellectual, uncaring Jounin and heartless avenger.
He saw all this, knew that one day he would consume them, and yet he could not pull away.
Hmm…. I'm still not sure about the Kakashi bit, but I think the rest is alright. sighs Kakashi is so hard to define!
Please review if you enjoyed it, or if you didn't, I do like constructive criticism.
