Prompt: Burke, "a man like him doesn't fall for a woman like her"
I Fell Hard
She is so aggravating, that woman.
She tosses her clothes and wherever they land is where they stay. She leaves her books strewn about, she eats takeout every night of the week unless I cook for her, she picks up her scrubs in the morning before work and sniffs them to see if they're clean.
She doesn't work out. She drinks too much coffee for her own good. She talks with her mouth full. She brushes her teeth in the living room. She doesn't know how to run a dishwasher. She's a surgical intern and she doesn't know how to run a dishwasher.
She is a power hungry, surgical junkie with an attitude that is unbelievably demeaning to those who don't know her. She doesn't respect nurses, she doesn't treat her friends incredibly well, she doesn't even heed her resident's warnings.
She keeps secrets. She won't share her feelings. She doesn't get upset. She doesn't show affection. She's...she's so very Cristina.
But she loves.
She covered for me when I couldn't operate on my own patients. She tried to protect me from the hospital. She tried to protect me from myself.
When I turned into the angry, slovenly person in the relationship, she picked up my slack.
She brought home chickens.
She puts passion into everything she does.
She scrubs with grace. She sutures with grace. She even cares for her patients with grace.
Not the kind of grace you'd find in a ballerina, or an upscale woman. This indescribable, awe-inspiring grace that nobody could ever emulate.
She loves in a way that nobody else could ever love. She doesn't say the words, because those words are said too much.
She shows it.
Her kisses are like fire, her touch electric, her eyes penetrate to the very core of my soul.
She is amazing.
They gossip about us. They don't understand it, how two people so alike could be together and not kill each other.
We have our moments.
To be honest, I don't understand it.
It would be so much easier if I dated somebody more submissive, more dependent. A woman who hung on my every word.
I am Preston Burke, and she should be quite impressed with that.
But she's not.
It would be so much easier if I stuck with the type of girl that the job title of surgeon impressed.
Because it doesn't impress her.
What impresses her is if I'm going to be doing a beating heart bypass using the McDonald-Bingeldier Technique.
What impresses me is that I had to read up on it because I had no clue as to what she was talking about.
She always keeps me guessing.
She's a challenge.
And I am Preston Burke.
I never back down from a challenge.
The nurses gossip about us, "A man like that doesn't fall for a girl like her."
The nurses are wrong.
Because I fell hard.
