I stepped out of the elevator and was instantly ingulfed by the smell of antiseptic and floor cleaner. I began the walk down the long hospital corridor,my shoes squeaking on the linolium floor. I clutched my messenger bag closer to me. Be strong, I told myself. If he sees you upset,he'll be upset. The door was in sight and a nurse exited the door shaking her head. I became immedietly worried. I picked up my speed and as I reached the door I was at a near sprint.

There he was. Beautiful and pale. Tubes sticking out of him breathing slow and even as he stared at the ceiling. I emerged from the doorway not sure I was gonna make it without getting upset this time. He turned and looked at me,his face changing as soon as he laid eyes on me. He smiled a weak smile. "Hey sugar." he said, reaching his hand out towards me. I swallowed back the lump in my throat and walked to his bedside.I laid my small hand in his as he laced his fingers in between we always did, even before he got sick. "How are you doing today babe?" I asked, trying to sound normal. He sighed. "The nurses are worried about somthing or other. I wasn't paying much attention." he said, staring at our hands. It was my turn to sigh. "Gerard, you have to listen to them when they tell you things about the development of the disease." I said, looking into his warm hazel eyes. "Amy,they're gonna do what they want with me does it matter if I listen to them or not." "I don't know,Gee. All I know is that I love you." I said, laying my head against his hand. A tear slipped from my eyes and rolled down his wrist. "Hey,come here." he said, lifting my chin. I climbed into bed with him carefully and laid my head against his I just let it all out. He smoothed my hair and murmured a few 'shh's' and 'it's okay's'.Tear after tear rolled down my cheeks until it burned. I cried until I fell asleep in his arms. A few hours later I woke up to find Gerard staring at the ceiling, deep in thought. "You okay?" I asked, running a finger along his cheek. He looked at me,a smile gracing his features. "I love you." he said, staring into my eyes. "I love you too babe." I said, sitting up to kiss him lightly on his lips. As soon as we kissed,I heard the heart monitor flatline. Terrified, I pulled away to look at Gerard. His eyes were closed, and he was smiling. "Farewell Sweetheart." I said, putting a hand to his cheek, then got up and left the room after one last look at the man I loved who just now happened to be a certified Angel.
