It had started off so well, the mission was going Perfect. Bella had managed to get James Hunter to back off her territory with his cyanide laced drugs, the deal was happening in five minute and then she could be back home with her family. She let her mind wander to her Peter, smiling as she remembered him holding their newborn daughter for the first time. He had been so nervous, but the second he held Charlotte Marie Whitlock, he was tied around her little finger.
The loud sound of an M-16 being fired brought Bella from her thoughts as the screams of her employees and family rang in her ear as The Pack shot at anyone from her side that they could find. The terrified girl peeked around the corner, her gun clutched in her hand so tightly her knuckles turned white. She didn't see anyone coming toward her as she prepared to fire back.
She propped herself up on her knees, her arm braced on her thigh to steady her hand. The next ten minutes were tense as the sound of gunshots filled the air with the quick POP POP POP of a semi automatic weapon. Bullet casings pinged off the floor as more and more rounds echoed through the air. Bella popped up over the hood, her eyes wild as she searched for the one person she knew could shoot as well as she could.
She spotted him as she turned to the left, the dark skin of her once best friend riddled with scars from every time they met. His shoulder was tense as he aimed directly at her, his face sat in the same stone cold mask he had worn since he was fifteen.
Time slowed as she aimed her gun at him, the sound of a single gunshot rang through the air before she even had time to fire. Her body jerked backwards, her hair clashed against the solid concrete floor. She could feel the blood slowly soaking her shirt. The sudden pressure left her breathless, she looked down at the wound. Her eyes locked on it in a sick fascination as she watched the blood slowly soak through her favorite blue shirt. This was Peter's favorite shirt on her. Peter. What was he going to say when she died? Her shaky fingers carefully pulled out her phone, resisting the urge to cry out in pain as the bullet moved inside her.
She dialed the familiar number, sighing in relief as the sweet sound of her husband's southern accent filled her ear, "Hello?"
Bella smiled as she head her beautiful one year old babbling in the background as Peter fed her, "Hey baby." her voice was quiet, trying to hide her pain.
She could hear the way Peter's voice brightened when he heard her speak, "Hey angel! Is something wrong?"
"No. I just wanted hear your voice." The lie tasted bitter on her tongue, and yet she wouldn't take it back even if she could.
He chuckled slightly, "Whatever you say. How did the deal go?"
She shook her head before realizing that he couldn't see her. "Let's not talk work. How's our girl?"
She could hear the smile in his voice as he talked about his princess, "She's doing just fine, missing her momma though."
She smiled sadly, "I miss her too, I know I've been away too long."
"Yes. You have. I forgot how long these missions can take. Will you be home soon?"
The pressure on her chest made it more difficult to breath, blood slowly leaked out of her mouth as she barely held in a cough. "Listen baby, I've gotta go. Never forget how much I love you."
"You and me forever and ever baby. I love you too."
The familiar words from their wedding day made her smile painfully as she slowly hung up the phone. Blood ran down her neck, leaving a sticky feeling behind. Screams still echoed around her as her vision slowly faded to black. The sound of Peter telling her that he loved her played through her mind as the last thing she heard.
