An idea based on a picture I drew of Koda befriending Tod and Copper. I just thought, "What if Koda became friends with Tod and Copper during Koda's mom's battle against Kenai and his brothers, Denahi and Sitka, Kenai's and Denahi's older brother?"

One spring morning, Koda and his mom were sleeping in their den until Koda woke up. "Mom," he whispered.

His mother opened up one eye. "Yes, Koda?" she asked.

"Can I go out and play, please?" Koda pleaded.

"Yes, as soon as you eat your berries," his mom said, giving him berries.

Koda gobbled them up and rubbed his nose against his mother's.

As she watched her son bound out of the cave, his mother cried, "Have fun out there!"

"I will!" Koda called back, "Thanks, Mom!" And he continued running down the forest hill, following a butterfly.

That morning, two figures, a fox cub and the hound pup were playing in the wilderness. They were chasing a butterfly until a bear cub bumped into them.

"Sorry," Koda apologized.

"That's okay," the hound pup said.

"Whatcha doing this morning?" the fox kit asked the bear cub.

"Uh, I was looking for someone to play with," Koda replied.

"Well, you're welcome to play with us," the fox kit assured him, "My name's Tod, the fox."

"And I'm Copper, the hound dog!" Copper exclaimed proudly.

"I'm Koda, the bear," declared Koda.

"Nice to meet you, Koda," Tod said.

"Yeah, nice to meet you," Copper agreed.

"Do you want to play with us?" asked Tod.

"Yeah, what game?" Koda replied enthusiastically.

"Hide and Seek," said Copper, "Tod taught me how to play it without peeking."

"Okay, you guys hide," Koda told them. Then he hid his face as he counted. "One…two…three…"

During this, Tod and Copper hurried to search for a place to hide.

"…four…five…six…seven…eight…nine…TEN!" When Koda finished counting, he added, "Ready or not, here I come!" In order for him to find Tod and Copper, he used his sniffer. When he finally found them, Copper asked, "Koda, did you use your sniffer?"

"Yeah, why?" Koda answered.

"I use mine, too," Copper stated.

Tod and Copper playfully pounced on him and soon, all three of them playfully tackled one another. They playfully nipped at each other and giggled wholeheartedly.

"Koda!" a familiar motherly voice called.

"Coming, Mom!" Koda shouted.

As he ran, Tod and Copper asked, "Will we see you again?"

"Yes, you will!" replied Koda as ran up the hill to reunite with his mother.

"Koda, how was it?" his mom asked.

"It was fun, Mom!" her son answered, hugging her. "I played with a fox named Tod and a hound dog named Copper."

"Hmm…they seem like a fun pair," Koda's mom mused.

"They were. We played hide and seek, tackling each other without getting hurt, and laughed."

"Sounds like you had a great time, Koda."

"Mom, can I see them again?"

"You sure can, son." And mother and son hugged.

As promised, Koda continued to play with Tod and Copper each day.
