A/N: Strange, strange stuff abounds in this one…

FOR ALAENA NIGHT, ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISHIHIME FANS I KNOW!

It was that strange, insidious emotion that began to affect most people their age. It was likened to a disease that they couldn't see to fight – silent, deadly, it crept up on them and left them helpless in their wake.

For one Inoue Orihime and one Ishida Uryuu, all the warning signs were there – flushed cheeks and sparkling eyes, racing hearts, breathlessness and unusual hot flushes, and their mutual friends could only watch, helpless to do anything about the situation…

Ah, the power of a first love!

They sought each other's company more often, talking not just with words, but giggles and blushes. At least, in Ishida's case there were no words, just a curious speechlessness that prevailed whenever Inoue was near him. Inoue was delighted by her new found feelings, and was just as happy to share said feelings with her friends.

'It's the way he walks, like an ancient warrior,' she crooned to Rukia.

'It's the way he's so strong and silent,' she sighed to Chad.

'It's his eyes, so mysterious and deep,' she told Chizuru, who immediately plotted her own suicide.

'It's his mouth, his laugh and his hands and his cheeks when he blushes,' she babbled to a bewildered Ichigo.

'It's everything about her,' mumbled a furiously blushing Ishida on being questioned.

Inoue was considering the many ways she could demonstrate her love for her precious Ishida-kun, thinking, among other things, of heart shaped with sweet bean paste, heart shaped balloons, heart shaped chocolates, even a special story in 3D with a thousand three hundred colours and gloriously blazing sound effects in which they were the main characters, but these she dismissed as mundane.

Ishida meanwhile, listened to her dreamy stories and baked her cupcakes, sewing her delicately colored shirts and dresses, and wove her daisy chains with the most sheepish expression on his face.

He had never been in love before, and wasn't quite sure what to do with it.

Rukia had (unhelpfully) offered suggestions ranging from the chaste to the unthinkable until Ichigo dragged her away, kicking and screaming.

Eventually, Inoue came up with a plan and put it in action the following day at lunch. While her classmates were eating, she dragged Ishida into the corner, twisting the hem of her t-shirt nervously. At last, she plucked up the courage and kissed his cheek.

When two similar screams of fury echoed through the classroom, she glanced up to see a near hysterical Chizuru and a horrified Tatsuki, a beaming Rukia, an embarrassed Chad and a rueful Ichigo.

Both Chizuru and Tatsuki were screaming at Ishida – how dare he take advantage of such innocence (Chizuru) and how dare he do it in front of everyone. (Tatsuki)

Ishida's protests went largely unnoticed until Inoue got everyone's attention.

'It wasn't Ishida-kun's fault, it was mine,' she told them cheerfully. 'You see, the fairies made me do it.'

Tatsuki sighed deeply, and Chizuru pointed a pair of scissors at her throat.

Ishida dropped his head into his hands. 'You used that last time, Inoue, the lunch, remember?'

Inoue shrugged. 'I remember, but it works so well!' she told him, a gleam in her eyes.

Ishida laughed softly. 'Smart girl.'

Inoue bowed. 'I try…'
