The Doctor: [pained look] I couldn't... I wasn't... Oh Rose. [drops gun] They're all dead.
Dalek: [weak] ... Why... do we... survive?...
The Doctor: I don't know.

The Doctor: The sky's burnt orange, with the citadel enclosed in a mighty glass dome, shining under the twin suns. Beyond that, the mountains go on forever. Slopes of deep red grass, capped with snow.
Martha: [breathless] Can we go there?
(long pause)
The Doctor: Nah, where's the fun for me?! I don't want to go home.

The Doctor: There was a war, and we lost.
Rose: A war with who? [The Doctor doesn't answer, seemingly lost in thought.] What about your people?
The Doctor: I'm a Time Lord. I'm the last of the Time Lords. They're all gone. I'm the only survivor. I'm left travelling on my own, 'cause there's no one else.
Rose: There's me.

The Doctor: I lied to you, 'cos I like to. I could pretend, just for a bit I could imagine they were still alive underneath that burnt orange sky. I'm not just a Time Lord, I'm the last of the Time Lords. The Face of Boe was wrong, there's no one else.
Martha: What happened?
[Pause]
The Doctor: There was a war. A Time War. The Last Great Time War. My people fought a race called the Daleks, for the sake of all creation. And they lost. We lost. Everyone lost. They're all gone now. My family. My friend. Even that sky. Ohh, you should have seen it, that old planet... The second sun would rise in the south, and the mountains would shine. The leaves on the trees were silver, when they caught the light, every morning it looked like a forest on fire. When the autumn came, a brilliant glow though the branches...

'The Time War began with the killing of most of the High Council. Romana survived though, she kept herself hidden. Then a Dalek fleet advanced towards Gallifrey, all Time Lords were called into battle. I regenerated while I was fighting to protect Arcadia. But no matter how hard the Time Lords tried, we couldn't save it and we were defeated.

Many didn't survive the Dalek destruction. I fled, coward that I was. That action will haunt me for the rest of my lives. The Daleks gave chase and followed the remaining TARDISes back to Gallifrey. The Dalek fleet advanced and a dogfight between Dalek ships and the remaining TARDISes ensued.

Romana called me back though and told me that the only way that I could save Gallifrey was to leave it. Little did I know that it would be the last time that I would see that planet, for as I left orbit, the Daleks attacked the Eye of Harmony directly, destroying it and causing my world to be destroyed also.

I watched my planet burn as i hung in mid flight from a distance, I couldn't help them, my planet destoyed.

I was so filled with rage that I infiltrated Skaro and destroyed it from within. This was against my best Time Lord instinct.

That war cost me my friends and family.

I was alone, I came to Earth to clear my mind. it was during this time that I noticed the Nestene was active again. I met Rose, she saved me.

But now I'm back where I started at the end of the war, alone.'
