At the foot of the great mountains of Lanayru, is a peaceful farming village know as Hateno Village. Legends say that in ancient times it was protected by a mighty ice dragon known as Naydra.
Although nowadays the village had been protected by the knights of Hyrule that had have been given their posts to protect the village from increasing monster attacks.
On one day, the rain fell hard and the skies darker. The weather was not the best conditions for a knight to be guarding the entrance to the village, but it was their duty.
A knight ran up to the two knights guarding the gate, scaring them until they saw the young knight's face. They were relived that it wasn't a monster.
"In the name of Hylia, what is it?" one of them asked. The other knight at the gate turned back to face the entrance to the village.
"Have you seen Linson anywhere, I've heard the news about...," he trailed off as he saw the captain of the knights coming though the gate grief in his eyes.
He had his horse followed behind, looking exulted from the long journey.
"Sir, I've just recently heard the news...I'm sorry for your loss," the young knight said. Linson did not speak and walked past his men. He headed up the hill only to follow a path down to a pound he knew all too well.
From his side of the pound, he could see a young boy who was weeping by the pound's edge. Linson finally sat down next to him and put his hand on the boy's shoulder.
"I'm glad I found you, Link. I've been so worried about you ever since I left," said Linson. Link glanced at his father's arrival and then looked down at his feet that were submerged under the water's surface.
"I miss her, dad. I can't forget about her, she was everything to me. Why did mother had to leave us?" Link asked his father.
His father sighed and carefully lifted Link's head up so he could talk to him face to face. "I know you do, but she's was just too sick, there was nothing the doctor could do to save her," his father said, "She may be gone, but that doesn't mean she's not with us. She'll be in here," Link's father said putting his hand over his heart.
"If you ever hope to someday become a knight of Hyrule, you need to learn to have courage". Link stood up and wiped his tears away.
"I'll do whatever it takes, I'll become the greatest knight in Hyrule!" Link said, determined to become the best.
His father smiled and ruffed Link's hair with his hand. He then got up from where he sat and stretched his arms. He beckoned Link to follow him.
"I know you will do great things, son. But let's get going, I'm sure your really hungry for some dinner by now".
Link nodded in excitement. "Right, let's go". Both of them got up from where they sat and started walking up the path towards the place Link had come to call home.
