Chapter 1 – Finally

"Hey, Hermione. Uhh...I have a- er...question to ask you."

Hermione put down the spell book she was studying and looked up at Ron, who was tapping her on the shoulder.

She smiled at him. She noticed that part of his red hair was sticking up a little, making him look slightly dorky, but still cute at the same time.

"Hi Ron. What do you want to ask?"

She wondered why he was looking so nervous. Ron kept fidgeting and his ears were starting to turn a crimson color. He cast a hurried glance to the side, and Hermione could see out of the corner of her eye that Harry was standing on the far side of the common room trying to urge Ron on.

I wonder what's happening, Hermione thought.

All of a sudden, Ron just started blurting out a bunch of words.

"Okay, Hermione. I know we've been arguing a lot lately, and I'm really sorry about that. The whole thing with Victor Krum, and everything. Then Harry kind of pointed out some things to me...I've been really stupid lately. Er...but it- I just.... I realized over the summer that it's just because, well....and I realized-"

Hermione was surprised to see him babbling like that. They had been best friends for the longest time, and here he was, standing in front of her and stuttering like an idiot. It was funny, but Hermione decided to help out a bit anyway.

"Ron. What is it?"

Immediately, he blushed and looked down quickly.

"What I'm trying to say, is that over the summer, I kind of umm...I realized that I don't want to be just friends."

Hermione's heart started beating faster. Was he really saying that? Or was she dreaming....

She had liked Ron, as more than just a friend, for quite a while now. But he never really showed that he felt the same way. Well, there were times when she suspected that he might like her back. But she was never really sure. Until now....

Was he really saying that he liked her?

"You don't?" Hermione said hopefully.

Ron let out a breath of air and smiled at her. He seemed to be relaxing a bit.

"No. I don't."

Hermione beamed and stood up from her chair.

"Me neither."

She then leaned forward a little hesitantly and kissed him on the cheek.

They both blushed and then just stood there awkwardly.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Gryffindor common room, Harry started to walk towards his two best friends, muttering under his breath.

"Finally."
