Lifeguard Duty

Ginny Weasley sighed. She was at the town swimming pool, sitting in a lifeguard stand.

"Why did I even take this job?" She muttered to herself. "All it has done is given me sunburn." Ginny put her dark sunglasses on and glared out at the trees. Nothing ever happened at the pool. It was, just about, the most boring summer of her life. Ginny looked out at all the splashing children and smiled. It was sort of fun to watch them play.

Suddenly, Ginny heard a splash, and drops of water sprayed her from the pool. "Ugh!"

"Help, Help, I'm drowning!" She heard the splasher yell. Ginny panicked. With her lifeguarding shorts still on, she jumped into the water. She put the lifesaver float over the person's head.

"Hey…" She thought, "I recognize that hair…"

"HARRY POTTER!" She yelled. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?"

"Hey, Ginny." Ginny's boyfriend, Harry Potter, said. "Just visiting my favorite redhead." Ginny glared at him.

"What?" He said sheepishly. "Calm down!" Ginny lowered her voice and said, "Harry! Now you've gone and made me get my shorts all wet!" Ginny swam towards the ladder with Harry following.

"I didn't actually expect you to fall for it, you know. I thought you were smart enough to look down before jumping."

Ginny climbed back onto her stand and refused to speak to him until her shift was over.

"Ginny!"

"What?"

"Your shift is over." Harry told her. She smiled at him and climbed off the lifeguard stand.

"Thanks."

"So are we going to be nice now?"

"Yes, I am, but next time don't get on my bad side."

"Come on, I brought the car. We can get ice cream if you want…"

"Yes!" Ice cream was Ginny's one weak spot, and she followed Harry out to the car happily.

"Hurry up and decide what flavor you want." Harry told his girlfriend.

"Oh, there are so many flavors!" Ginny cried. "I can't decide!"

Finally, Ginny decided on a new flavor called S'mores, which was chocolate, graham crackers, marshmallows and vanilla ice cream. Harry had quickly decided on chocolate mint chip, which was his favorite.

"Mmmmmm." Ginny licked her spoon. "This is really good! I don't know what s'mores are though."

Harry's eyes almost popped out of his head.

"You don't know what S'MORES are?" He yelped. Ginny looked at him.

"Is that bad?" She asked.

"No, but I'm going to have to show you." Harry told her.

"Why do you need a fire?" Ginny asked curiously.

"To roast the marshmallows on." Harry replied. Harry attempted to create a fire in the muggle way one last time.

"Oh, blast these stupid matches!" Harry cried in frusturation. "Incendio!"

A roaring fire burst up in the grate. Ginny moved away from it.

"It's too hot," She complained.

"It's supposed to be hot," harry replied, "It's a fire." He handed her a wooden stick with a marshmallow stuck on top. He held his own over the fire. Ginny copied Harry's example.

"Make sure it gets nice and brown. Those are perfect." Harry said. Just as he said that, Ginny's marshmallow caught on fire.

"Ahhhhh! Harry! Fix it! Noooo!" She yelled.

"Ginny, it's okay!" Harry snorted and gently blew the flame out.

"Oh. Thanks."

"Yeah."

"Does this mean I'm done?"

"Yeah, bring it over here." Harry helped her put it on a graham cracker and put a square of chocolate in between.

"Yum!" Ginny exclaimed. "It's really good, except for the burned part." Harry laughed.

"It isn't supposed to burn, but it's okay if it does."

"We should do this again sometime, Harry."

"Sure. After your lifeguarding duty."

Ginny smiled.
