Don't kill me for having nothing to do on a Friday, 'kay?

Hope you like. Enjoy.

Pointless Visit

By Tamashii-x-no-x-Renkinjutsushi

Esther lay down on her bed, exhausted. More than exhausted. She felt like passing out into a coma, and not ever really waking up.

After several long minutes, when Esther was finally half-asleep, there was a gentle knock at her bedroom door. She sighed heavily, rolled over, sat up and said, "Come in, it's unlocked," in a slow, slurred voice.

When Ion strode in, as casually as of he did this every day, she sat up immediately, as if she had had been burned by something hot. Very.

"E-Excellency, what are you doing here?"

"Just looking for something."

"Oh. What then?"

"Nothing important."

"Really."

"Yes."

Silence.

Silence.

Glare.

Glare.

Sigh.

Sigh.

Frustration.

A sneeze.

After several moments of this, Esther burst out, "WHY DON'T YOU TELL ME WHAT THE HELL YOU'RE REALLY HERE FOR, YOUR EXCELLENCY??!?!"

Ion seemed taken aback by her angry outburst. "I already told you."

"You sure were pretty vague."

"So?"

"So, just get out with it already!!"

He shot her a withering look as she glared at him, then strode right up to her, shoved his face in hers, and said in a deceivingly calm voice, "I came to see you. Alright? I come by for a visit just because I want to see you, and this is the thanks I get?" He seemed honestly angry, and even a little bit hurt. Not much, but a little. Now she felt really bad.

"Wait Your Excellency…please don't go." She said pleadingly as he had made a move for the door.

He exhaled heavily, then turned around and sat down next to her on the bed.

"I'm really sorry. I've just been really tired lately and…"

"And…?"

"You kinda woke me up when you came in." She said sheepishly, blushing slightly.

"So that's why?" He asked softly, looking at her. "You should have told me. I would have left."

"Well now I don't want you to leave."

"Oh?"

"Yes. Really. I mean it."

He smiled a little, and scooted closer to her.

"Well, enough with all of this. So what have you been up to while I've been gone, Queen Esther?"

"Lots of things. Very tiring and sometimes dull things, but it's all worth it."

"That's good."

They sat in silence for a few minutes, listening to a clock tick in the hall. Esther yawned hugely.

"You should probably be sleeping."

"Yeah…" She yawned again. "I guess so."

"Alright then, I'll—" But he cut off his sentence and blushed furiously, for Esther had laid her head contentedly on his shoulder. "Please…don't go.." She murmured, snuggling close to him.

"Alright, Esther, I won't."

"Thanks. For coming…I…mean…"

"No problem." He turned his face away, trying to rid himself of his blush. By the time his blush had faded, Esther was already fast asleep. He had no intention of moving her, nor did her have the heart to. Now that he noticed it, she really did look exhausted. Her Bright red hair seemed slightly duller, her face paler, and there were dark rings beneath her eyes.

This queen business must take a lot our of her. Wrapping one arm around her shoulder, he leaned against her as well, putting his head against her hair, an dbefore he knew it, he felt himself drifting off as well…

Outside in the hallway, Abel, smiled lightly and closed the door to Esther's room. He hadn't gotten a chance to visit Esther yet. Oh well. He would leave the Esther with the Earl tonight. He didn't quite feel like ruining the moment.
