Part One of Three: Dive into the Dark

"I'm not it again," Joshua said. "I'm always the one who has to find you guys and I never get to hide."

Trent rolled his eyes and looked at Rebecca. "Looks like you're finding Joshua and I today."

Rebecca sighed. "I'm setting the bounds as all of Lavender Town with a time limit of two hours."

Joshua was filled with excitement. He had moved to the town two months ago and with only two other kids his age he naturally formed an immediate bond with them. There was not all too much to do in Lavender town but playground games such as Hide-and-Seek and the occasional movie night at Rebecca's house. She had the biggest collection of films and Joshua especially was a fan of the scary ones. He was only seven but had conditioned himself through enough creepy movies to rid any ounce of fear from his mind. Trent's bravery was quickly shown as an act as he left the room when the killer showed face but Joshua's lack of fright was genuinely authentic. As a result of this, Joshua was eager to hide in the abandoned Pokemon Tower while Trent fell back and hid behind the PokeMart.

Joshua found a tombstone on the second floor and knew this would the perfect spot to take cover by. There was no way, as fearless as Rebecca appeared to be, that she would venture onto the second floor of the tower. They were all Pokemon-less and there was the occasional Gastly that roamed this territory. For that reason the kids were prohibited by their parents to even set foot in the building.

It was nearly an hour that had passed and Joshua's eyes grew heavy. He looked at his watch and noticed there was still an hour to go. It was not until minutes later that he fell into a deep sleep. In his slumber he did not see the wild Gengar approach him. Dozed off, Joshua did not get the opportunity to flee from the dark Pokemon that stared him down. Gengar did something that Pokemon rarely do and that was use an attack on a human. Gengar inflicted the dark move nightmare upon Joshua and his eyes flinched immediately. He felt as if he were falling, but did not wake up, and rather continued to feel as if he was falling. There was the anticipation of an awakening after the drop but the fall continued, almost cyclical. Soon the Gengar got bored and left the boy leaning against the tombstone with a painful expression that didn't show any sign of change to come. The game of hide-and-seek ended but Joshua continued to sleep. Night fell and morning rose as Joshua continued his snooze. It was almost a week gone by when the lack of food and water got to the boy. He passed away, stuck in the nightmare brought on by a menacing Gengar. Joshua's spirit rose and as it did the wild Gengar faded into an unidentifiable ghostly figure. The Gastlys and Haunters around him met the same fate.
