AN: I was writing something entirely different that used a similar line to the one in here, and it just stuck with me. I've never shipped Lily and Will together, but this drabble wouldn't leave me alone, and so I wrote it down.

Disclaimer. I own nothing.

Christmas shopping is bad enough. Christmas shopping with Will is even worse.

Lily shifts her weight from one foot to the other, arms folded, as her best friend pulls odd items off the shelf, examines them, and then puts them back.

"Why is this so hard?" Will keeps saying at odd intervals, and Lily lets out non-committal noises, because she often finds herself asking that question, late at night, when she's going over things in her head.

And the answer to that is, well, because it's not hard. Because that's the thing about Will. He's likeable. He pulls people in with his kindness and concern for those around him, and Lily is simply one of those people, one of the masses, just like Chris or Kaz Jennings, unable to help herself getting dragged in the orbit.

But Eve is the one with the bigger pull. She pulls people in without realising it, just the same as Will does, only this time he's allowed himself to be pulled in too. He is one pole of a magnet, and Eve is the other, and they are drawn together, one way or another, and people on the outskirts, people like Lily, are the ones who have to come to terms with that, because, like science, it sure as heck isn't changing anytime soon.

"Tell me," Will says suddenly, breaking her inner monologue. "If you were Eve, what would you want most for Christmas?"

If she were Eve, what would she want? The answer is out of her mouth before Lily can even think about stopping it.

"You."

Will pauses for a moment, face creased up in confusion as he turns to look at her, brows pulled together, and Lily feels her heart start to thump in her chest - he knows, he knows, he knows.

And then the confused expression turns into a grin, the smile making his eyes crinkle in that way that she's always found adorable.

"I can hardly cover myself in wrapping paper, can I?" He says, glancing back at the shelf for a moment. "Besides, Eve's already got me, and she knows that. She always has."

"Yeah," Lily replies, but the word tastes bitter in her mouth. "Always."
