Often I've wondered how they had become such close of friends- the Elven prince and the dwarf. They were each so different from the other but yet they became close friends and remained so. Legolas Greenleaf the Elf, lover of the open wood, friends with Gimli son of Gloin, lover of the mines, dweller of the tunnels deep beneath the surface? But yet, despite all that they have gone through, all that we have faced, it is their friendship that is created the strengthened.
At first glance it seems a random chance. But as one thinks about it more, it is clearly not so. Like music one naturally blends in with the other, strengthens, enhances him. As Legolas's melody dips and soars among the tree tops and open sky, Gimli's deep, rich harmony fills it out, flowing around the other- supporting, strengthening, shaping the other. Alone they are good, strong, but together they are so much more. It is fitting that it is between these two a friendship should happen, natural, right.
