Love At First Sight
Dad always told me things about the man I'm now married to. He said 'Jack O'Neill is an asshole and a idiot, but a good man at the same time'. I learned that for myself but it grew on me.
Dad always said 'Never marry into the military, it'll lead to hardship and pain'. I learned that too, but it grew on me.
Dad always said 'If you have a child, expect them to either hate or join the military'. I haven't gotten there yet, she's still a newborn.
Dad always said 'If you have a girl, they'll take your money and cause problems'. I have learned that, our daughter has made me go through hell, just to concieve was problematic but she grew on me.
Dad always said 'if you have a boy, expect to run the house like bootcamp.' Haven't done that, I'm having a girl.
Dad always said, 'Naming a child is hard, you have to have the right name and for the right reason'. That was easier then he said, her name is Carter Jolinar O'Neill. She has my name, her father's choice, and in honor of a Tok'ra who gave her like for mine.
Dad always said 'If you marry, marry for love'. I did that, I love my husband deeply and with all that I am.
Dad alway said 'You can still have everything'. I learned I could and now I do.
Dad always said 'You're eyes are the window to your heart'. It's true and now I see my daughter's heart, pure and beautiful.
Dad always said 'Death isn't the end of life'. I learned that when he chose to become human from ascesion. My father did ascend after Daniel talked to him unknowingly.
Dad said 'She'll be just like her mother one day.' I learned that twenty-three years later when my daughter, Captain Dr. Carter 'Jo' O'Neill stepped through the stargate as second-in-command of SG-1.
I guess Dads are right, we daughters just take it for granted most of the time.
