Sight of Warmth

Abby didn't know why she always had such trouble falling asleep. After the long days of running both the camp and Medical one would think that she would be able to just fall straight to sleep.
Sadly that was never the case.
But just staying in bed when she knew that she wouldn't be able to sleep felt like a waste of time which was why Abby had started wandering the around Arkadia in the evening to check on the people still awake.
Usually it made her feel great to see the people talking and laughing together but tonight it just made her feel lonely. It made her remember the times she had spent with her family on the Ark and wonder if she would ever get to spend more than a few minutes with her daughter again.
These thoughts spun around Abby's mind for a few minutes before she finally decided to head back to her room in hopes of dreamless sleep. But as she passed by the mess hall she heard a familiar laugh from around the corner and found her feet turning towards the person without thinking.
Marcus was still hidden from her view so Abby peaked around the corner to see him joking around with Miller Sr and Sinclair, his face lit up from laughing at something Miller said.
Just the sight of Marcus's smile warmed Abby up, even if the smile wasn't aimed at her. She had always found it odd that Marcus Kane could bring out emotions within her without even trying even on the ark when they could barely stand each other.
It was at that moment that Marcus turned towards the wall that Abby was peaking out of in order to respond to Miller. When he saw Abby looking at him the smile on his face grew even bigger. It made Abby feel like she was the only person he could see and Abby really liked that feeling.
The strength of her emotions sometimes scared Abby but in some ways in was nice to feel like she could someday find a place with the people in the camp beside Marcus.
As these thoughts passed through her mind Abby saw Marcus put his glass down and move like he was going to come towards her. Blushing at her thoughts Abby flashed him a quick smile before darting through the crowd towards her room.
She knew that Marcus would more than likely be confused but Abby wasn't willing to put her emotions into words yet.
But as she got to her room and closed the door she knew that the warmth of his smile would follow her into her dreams tonight.
