The accusation hung between them in heavy silence as the elevator descended.
Neo could feel the accusation from Trinity, the unspoken admonishing, the glare she was about to level to him.
He was flirting with me.
Merovingian, the Frenchman, had been flirting with him. The little looks, the smiles, the gestures…. Morpheus was oblivious. For someone with so grand visions, the man could be incredibly dense sometimes. But Neo couldn't blame him… Morpheus was completely focused on the Keymaker, and for a reason.
But still… flirting!
It was not the flirting, Neo knew, that upset Trinity so. She was quite used to women, and yes, sometimes men, giving Neo looks and smiles and such while they were in the Matrix, and even in Zion. What upset her was that he had not squeezed her hand, leaned towards her, smiled at her… none of the usual signs of affection he usually showed her when he was flirted with.
But he couldn't have done that. They were facing an enemy. He could show no sign of love, no sign of weakness.
But most importantly, Neo could show no sign of being affected by the foot trailing along his…
