Tsuki nervously made her way to her new job. She was transferred from squad 13 to squad 12 and she hated it. She had only heard bad things about the place. How Captain Mayuri would experiment on his own squad members, experimenting on anyone is bad enough. However Tsuki had no other choice, she wasn't very strong, ruling out physical fights, she was useless at any kido spells, ruling out squad 4, Captain Ukitake had pointed out that she had a great mind, she was smart, curious a perfect candidate for squad 12. Though Tsuki wasn't completely thrilled by the idea, she wanted to help somewhere and if that meant the becoming a scientist then so be it.
As Tsuki entered the large block building a man stood waiting.
"Tsuki?" he asked calmly.
"Huh yes" the nervous girl smiled sweetly. It was obviously full of anxiety.
"You are to work with me, I am Akon, so let's go" the man with horns suddenly walked off down the corridor before another word could be spoken.
"Uh Sir, what will my duties be?" Tsuki had no experience with science, at all. "You will be my new assistant" Akon explained.
"Okay, Sir I well, I'm not very, I mean, I don't know about science stuff" Tsuki mumbled.
"You will only be handing me tools, sorting files, you know how to use a computer?"
"A computer, well. No. No I don't" Tsuki felt this job slipping through her fingers, another thing she will fail at.
Akon stopped walking; he turned to look at the now very anxious girl.
"Then why are you here?" he asked confused.
"Well, I'm pretty useless at everything else" Tsuki mumbled.
"I doubt that" Akon expressed before walking off again. Tsuki blinked a few times, 'You don't know me' she thought before rushing off after him.
Finally they arrived at a lab; it was a massive, dark room. In the middle of the room was a large metal table, it had a body on it, there were more bodies hanging on the walls. At first it scared her slightly, but on closer inspection she realised that they were gigia bases.
"Tsuki?" Akon called watching his new assistant.
"Tsuki!" he repeated. Tsuki spun round to see him standing at the far side of the room beside a pile of papers.
"I specialise in Gigia's, I am currently working on that one" he said pointing to the table Tsuki followed it to the table "I don't have time to organise these papers, that's where you come in, I want you to file these properly" Akon then walked off towards a door, he turned the handle opening it onto a cupboard, it was full of filing cabinet. "The filing system should be easy to follow, you think you can handle this?" he asked.
"Yes sir" she didn't like the idea, there was a lot of papers about the place. Before another word could be said Akon walked off.
Tsuki rolled up her sleeves and started rummaging through the papers. It didn't take her long to get confused. When she peered up over the piles she saw Akon hunched over the body, she was fascinated by what he was doing, but she didn't have a good view, before she knew it she had been watching for over 30 minutes. With a panicked shriek she got back to her work. She hadn't realised that Akon knew she was watching him.
It took Tsuki most of the day to figure out the filing system. Another day on top to put all the papers way.
~Third Day~
Tsuki rushed in to the lab where the new boss had already been working, like before he was hunched over the body,
"Tsuki, there's a pile of papers on my desk that need to go to archives, there's a map on top, hurry, I have another job for you" Akon spoke without looking at her.
"Yes Sir" Tsuki smiled. She grabbed the map, studied it for a bit the grabbed the pile of papers there was quite a lot, it was a struggle to stop them from falling.
"Damn it" Tsuki suddenly yelled. She was lost, the map seemed pretty clear, but the door that was supposed to lead to the archives, lead to the bathroom.
"Uh, excuse me" a voice called from behind. Tsuki spun round to see a short boy.
"Hi" Tsuki smiled.
"You look lost?" he spoke quietly.
"I am, I uh was looking for the archives….. Oh Akon drew me a map, but I still managed to get lost, sorry" Tsuki sighed. The boy smiled,
"Why don't I help you" he reached up to take some of the papers,
"Oh I don't want to put you out"
"Not at all" the boy started walking "This way"
Tsuki followed.
"Thank you, my name is Tsuki"
"Oh you are Akon's new assistant, he doesn't normally take on personal assistants I think he likes to work alone, oh, I'm Rin, Tsubokura, just call me Rin"
"Nice to meet you Rin" finally they came to the archives. Rin lead the way in. The room was beyond huge Tsuki couldn't even see the end. There were rows and rows of filing cabinets, and shelves.
"Leave the on the table and get out" a voice suddenly called from somewhere, it made Tsuki jump, causing her to nearly drop all the papers. The two sat their piles on the table and rushed out the room
"Don't worry about him, he's actually really nice, he just doesn't like people messing up his files, anyway I best be getting back to work, it was nice to finally meet you Tsuki" he waved as he walked off.
"It was nice meeting you, and thanks again" Tsuki called after him before heading her own way back to the lab,
This time following the map and not getting lost.
"What took you so long?" Akon suddenly asked before she could even close the door.
"Sorry I got lost" Tsuki muttered.
"Even with the map?" He looked up at the girl. Tsuki smiled sweetly back at him.
"Put that on then come here" Akon pointed at a lab coat, gloves and eye mask. Tsuki did as she was told and walked over to Akon.
"You will be handing me things today"
"Yes sir" Tsuki was excited, she was about to see what he was doing.
After a while of watching Tsuki, still wasn't completely sure on what he was working on.
"Sir, can I ask what it is you are trying to do?"
"I am trying to increase the time a soul can remain inside a gigia before their spiritual pressure begins to diminish.
"Oh Okay".
For the next few days they worked on the gigia in silence, the only time Akon spoke was to ask for tools. Which Tsuki picked up their names quickly.
Though the silence sometimes bothered her, she didn't want to interrupt Akon while he worked.
~Few Days later~
Once again Tsuki assisted Akon with his experiments,
"Sir, if it isn't too much to ask, would you mind talking me through what you are doing?" Tsuki asked. She didn't really want to but she wanted to know what he was doing. Without saying yes Akon continued his work this time telling Tsuki what he was doing. She was so grateful
"Thank you sir" she muttered. L listening intently
This went of a few more days, when it came to the same thing Akon would talk about the history of squad 12, their past and present achievements, old members things that fascinated Tsuki.
That night Tsuki stayed behind wanting to learn more. She visited the archives finding pages and pages of information.
"Tsuki?" a voice suddenly called from the darkness. Startling Tsuki.
"Akon Sir" she asked
"Why are you still here?"
"Well I wanted to know more"
"Know more about what?" Akon sat down beside her after having to move some books.
"Everything" Tsuki replied with a smile and curious eyes. The girl fascinated him, her interest in learning, he watched her read for a while, the beauty radiated off her, and it was something he hadn't noticed until now.
"Tsuki, what did you mean when you said you are pretty useless at everything else?" he had recalled a her statement the first time they met, which would be nearly 2 months ago,
"Oh well, I am not very strong, I'm not a good swordswoman, and when it comes to Kidō I'd more likely blow someone up that heal them. I'm not really good at anything to be honest" Tsuki sighed. She had felt useless her whole life.
"That isn't true, Tsuki, you have an excellent mind, and you have an amazing personality" Akon pointed out calmly.
"Tsuki could feel her face redden.
"Thank you Sir" she mumbled. But she didn't really believe him.
"I am not lying" Akon explained, sounding almost annoyed.
Tsuki looked up at him, meeting his eyes.
"Thank you" she smiled embarrassed.
Suddenly Akon stood up.
"Excuse me, I have worked to do" he lied before racing off back into the darkness. Tsuki stayed still a bit confused at what just happened.
"Was it something I said?" she muttered to herself before returning her attention back to the book in her hand.
For the next few days Akon seemed a bit off with Tsuki, like her was avoiding her, it was worrying her, 'Have I said something wrong?'
The next morning Akon stood over his new experiment. Since that night in the archives Akon and been avoiding any contact with her, other than asking for tools, today was no different.
"Sir is there something wrong?" Tsuki finally asked.
"What do you mean/"
"you have been acting, well strange lately, mostly around me, actually only around me" she tried her best to sound confident but it betrayed her letting her words come out shaky.
"I have?" he knew exactly what she was talking about but he tried to hide that fact.
"You know what it doesn't matter" Tsuki smiled. She suddenly came concerned about his answer, 'What if he just doesn't like me?'
Akon quickly got back to work. From the corner of her eye Tsuki could tell he was looking at her, she pretended she hadn't noticed. She was scared. They both remained quite right up to lunch time. Tsuki was about to rush out the door with her lunch when Akon stopped her.
"Have I said something to upset you?" he asked
"Nope" Tsuki smiled, before running out the door.
During the 5 months Tsuki explored the barracks looking for somewhere to be alone, it was only the other day she finally found a little spot, there wasn't much to look at but not many people walked past. Tsuki sat down on a wooden box her head was spinning, 'Why am I so concerned about this? So what if he doesn't like me, I can't please everyone, but' that s when it hit her, she cared about him a lot,
Tsuki looked down to see a small bird coming closer looking for food. Tsuki took a bit of her lunch that she had no intention of eating and tossed it on the floor.
"Hello there, how is your day little birdie?" she asked the bird looked up at her, chirped the tucked into the food.
"What do you think I should do?" I mean , if he doesn't like me, then what, I really like him, more than I thought possible, he's smart, fun, fascinating, handsome, uuuuhhh I really like him birdie and I don't even think he likes me at all. This is so unfair" suddenly she heard rustling from behind. She quickly spun round to see Akon standing there with a shocked expression.
"Akon" she screeched standing up. Before another word could be spoken, the timer on Tsuki watch rung signalling it was the end of lunch.
"Well best get back to work" she spoke racing off
"Wait, Tsuki" Akon called after her by Tsuki had no intention of stopping.
'Well done idiot' she thought, she wanted to keep walking, straight to her home, and never l eave, but she had to go to work. 'But Akon there' Tsuki felt sick to her stomach, 'I really blew it, I finally have a job that I am actually okay with and I am going to have to resign, there's no way I can keep working with Akon now, it will be too awkward' She wanted to cry,
Tsuki finally reached the lab, no doubt Akon will be coming through that door any second, either that of he has run away. Right on queue there he was.
Tsuki turned, putting her lab coat on, she lifted her googles just as Akon grabbed her wrist, he spun her round pulling her into a hug
"Akon" the movement made Tsuki slightly dizzy, but she wasn't complaining.
"I called to, didn't you hear me?"
"Sorry"
"Did you mean what you said?" Akon suddenly pulled away.
"Uhh, well, yes" no point in lying.
"Then why did you run off?"
"I wasn't ready, to be told you doing like me" Tsuki looked to the ground.
"What, how said I didn't like you?" Akon tone was full of shock.
"Well, it's me"
"Tsuki, there is nothing wrong with you, you, well you are perfect"
'Is he being sarcastic' Tsuki looked up at him
"I mean it Tsuki" he expressed.
"You really don't hate"
"Far from it, I like you a lot too" Akon pulled her back into an embrace; it was prefect Tsuki felt wonderful.
They remained like that for a while before pulling apart,
"Sorry for running off, I'll make up for it" Tsuki smiled. Akon smiled slightly, before placing his hand on the side Tsuki's face. With the other he moved a bang of hair that obstructed his view; he wanted to see her face properly.
Tsuki felt her cheeks heat up.
"I really do like you, I want to be with you, and do you want to be with me?" Akon asked.
"Yes" Tsuki smiled happily. Akon took that as a sign to kiss her, Tsuki didn't hesitate to kiss back,
Finally the need for air took over before pulling away completely; Akon pulled Tsuki into another warm embrace. They both never felt happier than that moment.
