A/N I've never written a Dumping Ground FanFic before, but I just made a character that I love and I have to use her, so here I am. I hope you enjoy it. This will be set is series 3 of TDG and will be from the POV of my character, unless there is a stated POV change. :-)

I rolled over for the twentieth time. The hard floor made my body ache, and the few blankets I had been given didn't do much to warm me. I was tired, and I just wanted to go to sleep, but here, on the kitchen floor, I was unable to.

Suddenly the light flicked on and I had to blink to get my eyes used to it. I then looked up. Dad was looking down at me, his face evil.

"Get out of here, you," he said. "No one wants you, and I've got a lot of work to do tonight, so get out."

You. That's what I was usually called, seeing as no one had bothered to give me a name. To be honest I was used to it now, and immediately responded to it like any other person would respond to a proper name. But then again, it was my name, as no one seemed to think it was worth giving me a better one.

I slowly got up, heading for the living room. I usually had to do this: get up in the middle of the night and move somewhere else because someone didn't like where I was.

"No, not in there!" Dad said. He pointed towards the front door. "Out there."

I looked at him, puzzled. It was the middle of winter, and I was usually allowed in the house at night.

"Come on, you've annoyed me enough today already," Dad explained. "Go on, out you go."

Unwillingly I obliged: arguing would only make Dad angry. I walked to the front door, opened it, and went outside.

I then heard the key turning after me, and realised I was going to be locked out all night.

I had two choices: stay out here all night, or find somewhere warm that would take me in.

I chose the second.

After about half an hour or so of walking I came to a big house. It had started raining a while ago, and I was soaked through. I saw that there was a light on, so I walked up to the door and gently knocked, too tired to do anything else.

A minute later no one had come so I knocked again.

I was about to give up when the door opened and a man with a friendly smile looked down at me.

"Oh, hello," he said. He looked out at the landscape, and then back at me. "What are you doing here?"

"I need somewhere warm to stay," I said. My teeth started chattering. "Please let me in."

The man held out his hand. "Come in."

I took his hand and he gently led me inside and closed the door behind him.

"Right, let's get you warm and dry and into bed and then we can talk more in the morning," he said. He then bent down to my level. "I'm Mike."

"I don't have a name," I said.

Mike looked slightly shocked, but he quickly covered it up. "OK, um, I'll, can I call you Sunshine for now?" he asked.

I nodded. "Can I think of my own name later?"

Mike smiled. "Of course you can." He stood up. "Can I carry you upstairs, Sunshine?"

I nodded: I was exhausted and couldn't walk much further.

Mike gently picked me up and carried me to the bathroom. He then filled the bath with warm water.

"Is it OK if I give you a bath?" he asked.

I nodded.

Mike gently helped undress me, before he put me in the bath. The warmth was amazing, and I smiled as I felt it warm my body.

I lay there for a few minutes, before Mike lifted me out and wrapped me in a big fluffy towel.

"I'll just go and get you some clothes," he said.

A couple of minutes later he came back with a pair of pyjamas and a fluffy dressing gown.

"These belong to a girl called Billie, but I'm sure she won't mind you wearing them," said Mike. He helped me get dressed before he dried my hair with a hair dryer and brushed it.

"Right," he said when he'd finished that. "We don't have any spare rooms at the moment, so you can either share a room with a girl called Tee, or you can come in the staff bedroom with me."

I thought for a moment. "Which has the softest floor for sleeping on?"

"Um, Sunshine, you won't be sleeping on the floor," Mike explained. "You'll be sleeping in a bed."

"What?" I said, shocked. "But I'm not allowed to sleep on beds."

Mike thought for a moment. "Right, come with me."

I took his hand and followed him to a room. He opened the door to reveal a sleeping girl.

"Tee," Mike whispered, going over and shaking her. "Tee, wake up."

The girl, who I guessed was called Tee, opened her eyes. "Mike? What do you want?"

"I've got a girl here, Sunshine," Mike explained. "She's just arrived, and needs a bed for the night, so would you be willing to share?"

"Yeah, of course I would," said Tee. She turned on her bedside light and I saw a bed with a very thick duvet on it.

"Go on, then," said Mike. "Go to bed."

I walked onto the bed and climbed onto it. Mike then helped me take my dressing gown off and I got under the duvet and lay down, my head resting on the pillows.

"Goodnight," said Mike. "See you both in the morning."

And after that I didn't hear any more, as I'd fallen asleep.

A/N Hope you liked the first chapter. There's a polyvore with picture of Sunshine if you want to see it, there's a link on my profile. Please review. :-)
