A/n: My first Spiral fanfic, so if some things are a little off, please forgive me. A story I wrote when I should have been doing Chemistry. ;; Oh well, like the summary said, there are spoilers in here (for the manga as well as anime) This is dedicated to my friend Lakyn. She adores Kanone.

Disclaimer: I don't own Spiral or the song.

Child of the Wilderness

Born into emptiness

Learn to be lonely

Learn to be your one companion

Eyes Rutherford, world famous pianist, sat at the beautiful ebony piano in the center of his penthouse suite. His sapphire eyes were closed to the world around him, and his mind was closed to everything but the flurry of notes pouring from the instrument in front of him. He was oblivious to the emptiness of the room around him.

The young pianist was used to emptiness, though. Despite his fame, Eyes was always alone. But he was a Blade Child; loneliness and emptiness were nothing new. Kill or be killed; that's what he was taught, that was his reality.

Who will be there for you?

Comfort and care for you?

Learn to be lonely

Learn to find you way in darkness

His path had always been one of solitude, save one presence. The only person who stood by him continuously, who laughed and cried for him. The one person he would always love, no matter what happened. The one person who would kill Eyes as quickly as the pianist would die for him.

Never dreamed out in the world

There are arms to hold you

You've always known

Your heart was on its own

Kanone Hilbert, one name that meant so many things to Eyes: mentor, friend, lover, and finally, enemy. Eyes had loved Kanone, there was simply no other way to say it, and he had always thought that the feeling was mutual.

But Kanone had betrayed him, all of them. He had wanted them all dead. Kanone had been willing to work with the Hunters. Eyes had no idea when their views had changed so drastically, but they had. However, despite what he had done, Eyes still loved Kanone, and wanted to know that Kanone loved him back. But Eyes could never know; Kanone was dead, and once again, Eyes was alone.

So laugh in you loneliness

Child of the Wilderness

Eyes had no idea what would come next. Was Kanone right? Was there really no hope for them? Eyes desperately wanted to believe that there was. He wanted to believe in Kiyotaka and Ayumu, and for now, at least, he would. He would live, he would fight, and he would believe. He would fight his fate for as long as he could.

Life can be lived...

Life can be loved...

He would move on yes, but first, he would mourn. He would mourn the death of the only one he had ever loved. Kanone, his lover, the only one who ever cared for him, who ever held him. Now that he thought about it, he realized that it was irony in its cruelest form: the one that had caused him the greatest happiness had caused him the greatest anguish. As the last notes of the haunting melody died away around him, a single tear fell onto the ivory keys.

Alone...
