Melancholy
The little girl couldn't take it anymore; her mom was never going to get better. Every morning she would have to make her own breakfast and walk to school. Her mom had been sick for the past three months and counting.
When it was D.E.A.R time in Lit. Class, the little girl would doodle faces in her Disney princess notebook. The faces were from nightmares that she would have. The faces had red eyes and black skin. Like phantoms. In her nightmares the man or thing with the face would chase her and try to get inside and control her sub-conscious mind.
One day at school the little girl's friend invited her to go to his house after school. The little girl said yes but wondered what her mom would say. But then again, her mom was probably going to be in bed all day, like every other day.
After school the little girl and her friend walked to his house. On the way there the little girl thought she saw the face but ignored it. Suddenly, her friend was crossing the street when he got hit by a car. In just a few moments the little girl could hear the sirens of an ambulance.
Crying. That was what she was doing. And praying. This is what she would do every night before going to bed. The little girl didn't know the way to her friends so she couldn't go get her friend's parents, but she assumed that the doctor would call them, so she rode a bus to the hospital.
The security guard wouldn't let her pass. Apparently children under sixteen weren't allowed without a parent or guardian. She told the security guard many times that her mom was sick and couldn't come, but he demanded for her to call her mom. She tried calling many times but knew her mom wouldn't answer, and of course she didn't. The little girl decided to go sit in the waiting room and cry some more.
After a few hours the little girl went back home. Even though she felt like she betrayed her friend, she knew it was pointless to sit and do nothing. When she got back home, the little girl went up to her mom's room. The door was cracked open and she peeked inside and saw the man with the face was standing beside her mom's bed and was about to enter her mind. The little girl started crying and went into the room.
The man was gone and her mom was still asleep. The little girl woke her mom up and noticed that her mom, did indeed, have red eyes.
