Author's notes: so the story begins once again, how will things turn out, well hopefully you will stick around long enough to find out with that said please enjoy chapter 1 :)

Chapter 1: The war begins

Fairfield 5 weeks after first infection

A helicopter flew over the city of Fairfield containing 6 passengers, 4 men and 2 women, the group were all completely silent, the youngest of the group a young girl just aged 21 fiddled around with a bracelet in her hands, she was fairly tall being around 6 foot 2 and hard strawberry blonde died hair, she had brown eyes and wore army clothing complete with boots, a green beret on her head and the bracelet she was fiddling around with that would usually go on her wrist. Her name was Megan and like everyone else she was with she was a survivor of the green flu virus, now she was taking part in a American wide clean up mission, to end the green flu and once again take back the mainland they had lost to the army of brainless killing machines. But now things had gotten worse then any of them could possibly have imagined, the green flu had somehow spread across the continents, and was now beginning to infect countries all across the world, it was as though everyone's worse fears had come to life, even countries as far back as Russia had began to have contact with the green flu. Megan sighed as she looked around at the other people she was with, the sergeant of the mission, Sergeant Smith as he was called was in the charge she was the lowest ranked member of the team but she didn't dwell on it, "alright folks we are approaching the rooftop drop zone now prepare to role out" the chopper pilot suddenly called out over the speaker. She looked out the window as they approached the rooftop of the former mercy hospital, all over the roof was vines growing up from some unknown location brown in colour, the door to the side of the chopper suddenly opened up and everyone quickly jumped out, "alright folks your goal is to find out what's causing these brown vines all over the city and then report back here for pickup you have 24 hours good luck" the chopper pilot announced as he left.

"All right people you heard the man lets get to it" said Sergeant Smith patting Megan on the shoulder, "and sweetie don't worry about anything your gonna be fine no matter what" he said walking forward followed by the others, Megan looked downcast for a second before she began walking with the others as well, the brown vines were everywhere, "we can gain access to the inside of the building if we get up there and come down through the elevator shaft" said the second female member of the group who people simply referred to as Lady Death. Megan had been warned not to call her anything else and she simply went along with it, all members of the team were equipped with weapons capable of dealing with decent sized hordes, including the minigun being held by the largest member of the group who they all called Hulk, Megan herself preferred the close quarters devastating power of the auto shotgun she held tightly in her grip. They also had 3 assault rifles and the large military sniper held by lady death, as well as this all of them were equipped with M1911 pistols and knifes in case they needed to go close quarters, they quickly climbed up the wall so they were standing on top of the elevator shaft and climbed down a ladder one by one so that they were inside and out of the cold. Megan shivered as even out of the pouring rain and darkness of night she felt chilled to the bone but none the less kept up with her more experienced and older colleagues, they navigated through the tight vents and came out on the top floor of the hospital which looked as thought it was under construction when the green flu hit. Unsurprisingly the brown vines were protruding all over the walls and leading down the corridor into the lower levels, "alright lets go see if we can find out what's causing all these vines and roots to be all over the place" the sergeant said poking one causing it to throb.

They followed the vines down the corridor and came to the entrance of a safe house at the bottom of the stairs, of course both the red steel doors had been smashed in and now it was simply a room with some leftover ammo and a few dead bodies, Megan grimaced as she was forced to turn away from the dead bodies, Lady Death lead the way forward and they were now on the floor below the one they were just on. The vines were everywhere but surprisingly there was no sign of any infected presence amongst them, they continued on walking next to open sections of the floor they were on granting them birds eye views of the city below many buildings around them burning furiously, "according to the map I read on the way here there is an elevator still working on this floor we can take down to the lower levels of the hospital" Lady Death explained. They then proceeded forward, eventually coming across the elevator on the floor they were on just begging for someone to use it, "well aint that just lucky huh" hulk said chuckling as they walked slowly toward the elevator shaft, it was then that they came across the grizzly scene of murder, on the floor in front of the elevator shaft was a large pool of blood. They then all gasped as they stared left at a body slung up on the wall ripped in half from its waist a look of pain and terror on it face that Megan would never forget, however it was the message left on the wall in large red writing that chilled them all to the bone, 'BEWARE THE CRIMSON HEADS', "what the fuck does that even mean?" Hulk as they carefully stepped around the pool of blood and into the waiting elevator. "I don't know but I don't wanna stick around to find out" Sergeant Smith uttered pressing the button for the lowest floor possible in the elevator, the doors closed and the elevator began to descend the building, whilst the others quietly conversed Megan had a whirlwind of thought surging through her mind, what were the vines, what happened to the body back there, what the hell was a crimson head?

Her thoughts were interrupted when the doors abruptly opened and revealed yet another chilling scene, the doors opened revealing to them vines all over the walls and even going along the floor to some extent and the celling as well, they all throbbed lightly as it looked as thought something was passing through them, what chilled them all to the bone however was the large sacks hanging from the walls. They were all over the walls throbbing like the vines and looked as thought they were filled with something, "what the hell is in those sacks?" Lady Death asked quietly as pointed her sniper rifle straight up as alight rustling could be heard in the distance, "I don't know, but I have a feeling we are gonna find out soon enough" Hulk said quietly as they all quickly exited the elevator and began following the brown vines once again trying to ignore the urge to open the sacks and see what was inside. They passed over a pile of human bodies causing Megan to shiver and continued down the corridor following the vines, they then turned left and came out in to what looked like the reception area of this floor of the hospital, Megan yelped as she turned a chair around revealing a corpse laying inside it a huge hole in its neck. The rest of them chuckled save for Lady Death who merely grunted, "sorry" she said sheepishly as she carefully walked away from the chair, "enough chatter the vines lead this way come on" Lady Death said sharply, unlike the rest of her colleagues who simply wore their army fatigues, Lady Death also wore a gas mask concealing her face. Why was beyond anyone's guess but they had learnt not to question anything she had done, they continued down another flight of steps, and came out into what looked like the canteen area of the hospital however quickly enough they all gasped at what stood in the middle of the room, in the middle of the canteen stood a large egg shaped dome, tha throbbed and pulsated like it had veins inside it.

"What in god's name is that?" Megan said quietly fear evident in her voice as they jumped down and slowly walked closer to the egg shaped dome, surprisingly all the vines in the room seemed to be connected to the dome and any going out down stairs into the bottom floor of the hospital were also leading to the dome, "it looks like some kind of vessel and all the vines and roots are connected to it, but what is inside?" Lady Death quietly said. "I can help you answer that" a voice called and all of them jumped back in shock as there standing on the top of the dome was a hunter, wearing all black and with a brown vine around his left arm, "who the hell are you and did that hunter just talk!" Hulk said in shock. "It doesn't matter who I am, all's that matters is that your journey ends here" he said, Lady Death quickly raised her file firing a shot but the hunter merely shifted sideways slightly the bullet missing by inches, "hmm so you want to play rough do you, well I will be happy to entertain that notion" the hunter said jumping down from the dome and landing in front of them. They all gasped in terror as singing began to occur all around them and vines began to rise up from the dome and began to surge forward looking for their intended targets, the survivors retaliated with gunfire, the vines retracting as bullets pierced into them causing a vile looking green liquid to spew from the holes all over the floor. Megan fired a shot at the hunter who dodged before lunging at her, she cried at as he slammed her against a wall and raised his claws to strike, however a blow from the butt of a rifle caused the hunter to jump back in shock and in pain, "Megan listen to me get out of here and find a way to contact the chopper we will deal with this infected menace" Sergeant Smith said handing her a radio. They then looked back in alarm when a second hunter appeared and pounced on one of them and began slashing away he cried out in agony as his blood flowed freely from his ripped apart body, the female hunter quickly jumped off and snickered as she stood with her brother now covered in blood, "looks like more survivors that wish to play" she said snickering and bearing her fang like teeth.

"GO NOW MEGAN" the sergeant shouted as he began firing at the 2 hunters along with Hulk Lady death and other member of Bravo team, Megan nodded before she took of running, running to another flight of stairs and down them quickly launching herself at a nearby saferoom which lead to the front of the building via the emergency room, she ran out into the main street outside the hospital and looked all around her for a way out of the area. She turned back in alarm as loud scream occurred as a body came flying thorough a second story window, Hulk screamed as he slammed into a car inches form where Megan was standing she quickly ran over to him and knelt down next to him, "Listen girl, we are fucked do what ever it takes to get out of this city, but what ever you do don't go back inside that building" he said before his head lowered never to raise again, she whimpered as she stared at his lifeless body before hearing more screaming behind her. She then noticed a manhole leading into the sewers and seeing no other way out she quickly made for it climbing down the ladder and placing the cover back over once she was down below, she got to the bottom of the ladder and gasped as she was now standing in a new gloomy world of slime and dirt. "Shit" she said quietly as the screaming above stopped, she then picked a direction and took of running knowing that her colleagues were all dead, she had to find a way to contact the rescue chopper, and then get out of the city and worn Papa Gator what she had discovered, she was now lost in the city of the dead...

Lady Death cried out as a vine wrapped tightly around her body, all of her colleagues including Sergeant smith were dead, killed by the 2 hunters, she closed her eyes and breathed deeply as the female hunter stood next to her and raised her claws to deliver the killing blow "no, bring her here to me" came a female voice from inside the dome, Lady Death cried out as her gas mask was knocked off and the vine pulled her inside the dome the 2 hunters watching. "One of them got away" said the male hunter leaning against a wall, "it doesn't matter she is at the mercy of our infected breather in now" said the female hunter chuckling as she began to walk towards the dome as screaming occurred from the inside. Lady Death had long brown hair and blue eyes with intense fear inside them as she stared at a witch sitting in some kind of make shift throne made of vines with a hulking figure with deep orange eyes standing behind her "what the hell are you?" she said terrified as the witch stood up and slowly walked towards her, "I am Mercy, and you are now my prisoner" she said caressing her hand along Lady Death's face causing her to whimper. "What are you gonna do, pls don't kill me" she said terrified as the witch chuckled, "kill you, oh no your much too valuable to waste, your going to have a much more interesting purpose then that" said Mercy chickling, "but for now you are simply my little play thing" she said as she roughly pressed her lips to Lady Death's, the woman withered and thrashed in disgusts as the witches tongue entered her mouth. She then pulled away and chuckled as Lady Death spat in disgust, "but then you will become like one of us" she said sinisterly, Lady Death then screamed loudly as many vines began to approach her, Mercy simply cackled as the 2 hunters and Todd watched the scene unfold, "welcome to the winning team" the female hunter said as the vines began to tear at Lady Death's clothing the woman screaming in terror as Mercy simply laughed. "The war for Planet Earth has begun and now my plans shall unfold" Mercy said snickering as Lady Death sharply fell silent.
