Consequence

Consequence: a result or effect of an action or condition.

The sane part of him, whatever little there was, had known the whole time that this unreasonable plan wasn't going to prevail, and that he would only cause himself grief later on due to empty promises. He had thought many times to just come home and give up on 'world domination'. That was when his more cold, arrogant alter ego kicked in and persuaded him to continue, if only to amuse himself. But it didn't amuse him, to see these living people harmed.

He'd had this realisation at Stuttgart, Germany. When that old mortal man had stood up against his rule, Loki had been mildly impressed and, at the time, outraged, that the man had the gall to query his rule. But, the time spent in his glass cell hadn't been in idleness, he had questioned his every action in the last 5 years, realising why people hadn't trusted him, why he had done what he did in his rule as Asgard's King, why he thought he would be peaceful after the death of Jötunheim's leader, his father.

But Loki would never find the answers, his fa- no, the All-father, had never told him why he had chosen to take home a runt Jötun, the Prince even. A prize? A peace connection between the realms? Another child? Loki didn't bother trying to think about that,

Asgard had always looked prestigious. Even when he was plotting and scheming the downfall of his own 'brother', he admired how welcoming and warm Asgard was.

After experiencing the worst that the world had to offer; the rawness of Jötunheim, the pain of The Other, the numbness as he lost himself to his taunting, unforgivable thoughts that slowly picked apart his sanity.

The thing he wanted, longed for, was to just see the beautiful city once more before he was either dragged off to whatever punishment the All-father had in store for him or when, inevitably, the Chitauri would come to collect them for revenge of his failed plans and promises.

As Heimdall opened the Bifrost, Loki knew that it was all about to go wrong.

Thor looked down towards him in worry.

The Avengers stared in horror.

Loki resigned himself to death.

The world went black.

It was cold day in Yggdrasil as he lost his sanity.
