"I like watching her sleep."
A cruel grin appears on Fai's face upon hearing this."So she can't annoy you," he supposes.
He watches Kurogane's eyes darken and his brows furrow, but seems not to care.
"She doesn't annoy me," the ninja points out, turning halfway in the direction of the vampire.
Fai just shrugs and turns his head away.
"I won't let her sleep there any longer. She'll catch a cold," the vampire says, but doesn't move. Kurogane turns to face the princess again.
"I know," he answers in a low voice, without stating to which of Fai's statements he is referring to.
And, like so many times before, Fai doesn't ask.
For one more moment, Kurogane stares down on the exhausted princess' form with sincere sympathy and worry in his gaze.
Then he softly picks her up from the couch and moves to carry her to her room.
Fai opens the door and leans against it, watching the ninja brush past him.
A tad disbelief colors his tone, but his overall expression remains cold.
"So eager to leave her in my custody again, Kurogane? How unlikely."
He watches how the ninja tucks the girl in, much more slowly than he had done before. Of how his fingers linger over the crown of the princess head, how they hesitate for a moment but eventually withdraw. He is oddly annoyed by the other's silence.
"I'll be next door," the ninja says quietly and Fai really can't figure out the other man's purpose for saying that. He's always nearby anyway, like any other night. And he also can't figure out as to why the hell does his quiet, calm behavior make him even more put out?
But he stays silent, letting the other walk past him. Closes the door without sound but with definite meaning. The room darkens.
He can still smell Kurogane's scent in the air though.
