A/N: My first Kings fic. I'm fascinated by Rose and Silas, so it is focusing on them. I hope you enjoy it!
She wondered if this was what it felt like to watch the world slip away. Her life had been devoted to the monarchy, to the country. She'd watched Gilboa grow, just as she'd watched her children grow. Would the death of her daughter also mean the death of the country?
He was strong, her husband, yet there were also demons he battled. She knew, as he sat by their daughter's bedside, he was battling those demons. He had started slipping when she became sick, and the sicker Michelle grew the more he slipped away. She watched as he continued to read, never finishing the childhood favorite. How many times had Silas read the story when she was younger? Now, it was as if he knew, once he said 'the end' Michelle would slip quietly away.
She knew this was what he could not accept. No, her husband could not accept his princess was going to die. Honestly, she could not accept it either, but she knew of nothing she could do to stop that from happening. Her prayers seemed to be falling on deaf ears, hopefully his would do better.
What she did know though, was if there had ever been a time when the country needed its king, this was it. The drums of war were beating again, and she did not see them being silenced anytime soon. Gilboa needed its king to strongly and boldly lead them into this conflict. However, at this moment, he was not capable of that. She'd spent her life building the monarchy, and she would do what had to be done to preserve it. She knew eventually, he would come back to himself, until that time she would do what she she had to do to keep the monarchy strong. After all, her son would inherit it someday.
