The Fool and the Star
A child gazes at a glittering star,
And finds herself strangely touched.
"I heard that, from somewhere far,
There are people among the stars.
"They feel what we feel,
And that someday they will visit us,
And show us things that will make our minds reel.
And peace will finally stop all that is killed."
She glanced at the girl who sat beside her,
Yet found herself staring at a pained expression.
"You are a fool for being so sure,
And may you stay that way to avoid fear's stir.
"For, don't you think that in all our hate,
They must feel somewhat the same?
And perhaps someday we'll unit in fate,
But don't be naive or foolish, for that is their bait."
With that she left the girl behind,
To ponder about what was just said.
She sighed as she remembered her find,
That the girl who had just left was not a child in mind.
