ONCE; extended summary

❝Once, we were children
with stars in our eyes
and innocence in our veins.❞

EVANGELINA GRANGER
had always felt awfully ordinary, especially when she compared herself to her overachieving older sister. When both girls receive a letter and are informed they're witches, Eva sees Hogwarts as an opportunity to finally step out of the shadow of the 'other Granger.' She did just that, when she unwittingly became the first Muggle-born Slytherin in decades, though the attention she earned did more harm than good. With an unexpected rift forming between the Granger sisters, as well as the brutal reality that Eva will never fully be accepted in her own house, she knows her Hogwarts education may turn into more of a survival story than a success.

EMMELINE HOLLAND
had been born and raised a Pureblood, living by the old ways as per her parents' choice to dictate their daughter's childhood. She had a few goals at Hogwarts; avoid those of impure blood, get into Slytherin, and keep the Holland name clean. Of course Emmeline - with her natural intelligence and hardworking nature - was sorted into Ravenclaw, a cold shock to the girl's parents. While not in her family's favour, and with few people who wanted to befriend her, Emmeline was left to her own devices, trusting no one but herself and her best friend in the house she was supposed to be sorted into.

CASSIAN KAYODE
lived with a foot in both worlds, with a witch for a mother and a Muggle for a father. He'd never really minded it, and learnt all he could from both his parents and his older sister. When Cassian is off to Hogwarts, his kind disposition and unconditionally loyal self is sorted into Hufflepuff, an event that was accepted and supported amongst his family. Maybe Cassian's Hogwarts experience would've been peaceful, more of what he'd expected, if he hadn't gotten himself friendly and thus willing to help the-boy-who-lived and his rule-breaking companions.

TERESA SONG
belonged to what would be called an "old" wizarding family, one that stretched back generations and resulted in her Pureblooded status. Her family's actions over the generations had also resulted in the label "blood traitors" for accepting that not everyone was Pureblooded, and supporting those who weren't. Teresa practically ran headfirst into Hogwarts, with a mouth to match her attitude and nerves of steel. Earning her place in Gryffindor, Teresa befriends the famed Harry Potter, and consequently ends up in more than she bargained for, though she wouldn't have had it any other way.

THEY WERE JUST FOUR KIDS
sent to a school of witchcraft and wizardry, and at the time neither could say they were ready for what was to come.

DISCLAIMER.
I do not own or claim ownership of Harry Potter (the guy and the universe), the films, books or anything associated with them. I do, however, own Teresa, Eva, Cassian and Emmeline, and anything associated with their characters that you do not recognise.

WARNINGS.
swearing, racism, violence, angst and that feeling that the worst is yet to come and you should enjoy these smol children while they last.

this is also an OC-centric fic, saying that now.

AUTHOR RAMBLINGS. (a lot)
i am so, so excited to be publishing this. i'm super attached to the idea and every single one of the characters and ahhh. this book is the first in a planned trilogy and is set in the first three years of hogwarts, so there is no romance yet. who knows if we'll ever get to the last two books but hey, that's the goal.

the story is told from the point of view of four different characters, each from wildly different backgrounds, mindsets, experiences and houses, of course. because of this, many ideas and opinions will be tackled and challenged that the original book series could not because of this one's four-way telling. personally i've never seen the idea taken on, but i won't take credit, just know i'm a touch nervous of telling multiple stories at once.

i will be combining elements from both the books and movies, as i appreciate the detail in the books but sometimes prefer the simplicity in the movies.

there will also be no real romance in this book, as they are all extremely young, but once they're in older years, the future pairings will become more obvious, and if you're a careful reader there will be definite hints to future love interests poured into the pages of this story.

with all that out of the way, i hope everyone enjoys the start of this journey!
