Eleanor and Park fanfic
After Park
Chapter Two:
Detention Part one
There was only one more day of the week before the weekend, and Eleanor couldn't be more impatient. Not only did she have to sit through 4 whole remaining classes of the day, but she had to do so knowing that on Saturday, she and Dani would be going to the town's mall. Sure, it may not seem like such a thing to get so excited over, but for Eleanor, it meant she was finally being accepted into a real friendship with Dani. Also, Eleanor hadn't been to a mall in over two years. Her mom often bought her clothes for her as a present for a birthday or Christmas, and when Eleanor bought the clothes herself; her mom had always taken her to thrift stores that sold second hand clothing. Eleanor had never really had the full experience of going on a shopping spree in a mall, and this was her chance. And it was a bonus she was doing it with her new friend, Dani. Even though Dani said enough for the both of them and a little extra, it was nice to have the company. Eleanor was proud to say that she had earned the money she would be using for the shopping spree through her job. It was a weekend and sometimes afterschool job where she babysat for her neighbours families that often went out late at night.
Eleanor began staring out the window into the amalgamation of brightly coloured leaves sewn to twigs on the old oak, which firmly stood a few feet away from Eleanor's Physics classroom.
Staring intently at the swaying leaves, Eleanor let her mind wander.
"Can someone please tell me the answer to this equation? Anyone? How about...Eleanor. Can you tell me what the acceleration of this car is if it travels at a speed of 32ms-1 for 45 seconds?" Mr. Greenway began to stare at Eleanor inquisitively.
She could feel warmth spreading through her cheeks. She had been caught out. Eleanor could almost see the corners of his mouth twitching, as if he enjoyed watching her squirm.
Staring at the board, Eleanor tried to control the blood rushing to her cheeks while she concentrated on creating the equation in her mind.
"Um...well...I'm not exactly sure..."
"That's all right, just gives it your best shot". He was practically grinning now.
"I really don't know sir."
"I thought so. Eleanor, pleases see me after class."
Every head turned to her like dogs to meat. Blood came rushing up to her cheeks as she fiddled with her pen, avoiding eye contact with any living, breathing, moving object.
Oh shit, she thought. This better not take long.
Once the class had finished packing their belongings and the lesson had come to an end, Mr. Greenway summoned Eleanor to his front desk. Quickly, she packed up her books and shuffled to the front of the classroom, where waiting stood the mighty man, powerful in his element.
"I think it's quite clear why I have asked you to stay behind. Eleanor, normally I would let a distracted student free from punishment if they manage to complete some work. but, seeing you haven't done the homework I set out last week, and I haven't seen you write down a thing this lesson, I am sending you to detention this Saturday, and I hope you can reflect on your actions there." Mr. Greenway stared intently at her, waiting for a response.
Was it her fault she was busy working last week to do the homework? Now the time she spent at work trying to desperately save enough for the shopping spree with Dani was wasted. Sighing, she nodded in silent agreement and left through the door.
