The Mysterious Gem: An Artemis Fowl one-shot
Holly flew in a circle around Fowl Manor, looking for an opening. She was about to give up when she saw that Artemis' window was open. Grinning, she went into a graceful dive and landed with a soft thud on his bed. She rolled over and sighed. Why did Artemis always get the best of everything? This bed, that shirt, those high cheekbones, perfect complexion, well-built body (now that he was working out) beautiful blue eyes...
She sat up abruptly. No way she was having these thoughts about her- human! -best friend. She pushed those forbidden thoughts to the back of her mind and bounced around a bit to make herself forget about it. As she was testing the springs on Fowl's bed, she realised there was something hard and lumpy on one side. She stuck her head underneath the mattress and saw a stitch underneath. Where there wasn't meant to be one.
Holly pulled out her Neutrino and set it to stun. Then, she blasted the stitch off and caught the thing that fell out.
It was sort of knobbly and strange, with dots of colour on it, that had little reflections. There were parts of it you could move around, and it glowed when you pressed the middle with your finger. Fascinated, Holly turned the mysterious gem over in her hands. She decided it would be no use going to Artemis about it, because he would just get angry (and he was cute when he was angry-stomping around the place, and then locking himself in his room) so she went to Juliet instead.
"Juliet!" she yelled, flying down the stairs towards the blonde girl. "I found this in Artemis' room. Do you know what it is?" She handed over the gem.
Juliet's eyes widened as she stared at it. "No... freaking... way..." she breathed, turning it over in her hands. She looked at Holly. "You found this in Artemis' room?"
Holly nodded impatiently. "But what is it?" she asked again-but Juliet was inspecting it closely.
"One sec, I have to make sure it's not fake... OMG it's real! MRS FOWL!" she screamed, bolting in the opposite direction. "Keep that safe Holly!" She chucked it back to Holly, who automatically caught it.
Great. Time to consult the OTHER Butler.
A WHILE LATER
Holly jumped onto the stair railing. "Hey, Butler."
"Hello, Holly," said Butler suspiciously. He hoped it wasn't another one of Artemis' crazy plans. "How can I help you?"
"I was wondering," she said, fishing the mysterious gem out again, "If you could tell me what this is?"
Butler stopped. "Im sorry, Im going to have to consult Artemis on that matter," he said, and walked in the direction of Artemis' room.
Another failed expedition.
TIME PASSES...
Holly was searching for Mrs Fowl. Maybe I can get a straight answer out of her, she thought. She jumped as she heard Juliet's voice at the bottom of the stairs.
"ADMIT IT ARTEMIS! HOLLY FOUND IT!"
"No, I will not, because it is not true," came the cold response.
Holly peered over the railing, and saw all of the inhabitants of Fowl Manor standing there. Juliet and Artemis were in the middle, then there was Butler, Madame Fowl and her husband standing around him. Madame Fowl waved her down, and she flew down next to her.
"Holly! Have you still got it?" said Juliet, spotting her. Holly handed over the mysterious gem. Artemis froze as Juliet brandished it in his face. "SEE! WE'VE GOT IT RIGHT HERE!"
Artemis scowled as the entire family collapsed into laughter.
"But what-" said Holly, angry now.
"Holly, this is a game controller! Artemis Fowl the Second plays video games!"
Holly burst out laughing. This was definitely going on the LEP forum board.
So yeah, that's my story for this month's competition!
