He could feel the branches sway beneath him as he gazed through golden leaves at the girl beneath the tree.

The sunlight shone on her dark hair, turning it a golden brown. He couldn't see her face but he could picture the sunbeams dancing in her eyes and the smile playing upon her cherry lips.

Tall and still she stood, unaware of the sun going down. The more he watched, the more it seemed she was facing something.

She turned around. Now he saw her face, he realised she was facing away from something. Something glittering silver in a pile of dead leaves.

She gazed at whatever it was and the smile he imagined on her faded. She would be crying, he thought, if he could see her up close. The light surrounding her was no longer glowing, but quickly beginning to darken. She reached down for the trinket in the leaves.

She held it in cupped hands. It must be a necklace, he realised. She was fastening it around her neck. Her hand covered the pendant and she wiped away a tear. The necklace seemed to be both a poison and the cure.

Suddenly, her head turned to the ground beneath her feet. A small brown bird had hopped next to her.

She sat down and the bird came closer.

She offered her hand out and whispered to the bird. It tilted its head up at her and she scooped it up in both hands and hugged it to her chest. When she put it down she whispered to it again and it might have been his imagination but he thought he saw it whisper back.

It chirped at her and flew away. She followed the bird with her eyes, her bright smile lighting up her eyes.

She lifted her face towards the sky and as he saw the light in her golden eyes, he realised he was in love.

The world stilled.

No.

Not her. It could never be her. No. It would never work.

He felt a blunt throb in his chest. He felt sick. The sun began its descent and the golden light began to fade. A chill wind breezed past, making the leaves block the girl from his sight. Good. He didn't want to see her again.

And yet he knew he would. He always would. She was a light that lit up his dim world, ever since he first saw her. He didn't know what she had done to him but he didn't want to undo it.

The wind picked up and he had to grab a nearby branch to stabilise himself. He peered through the leaves, hoping for a final glance of her before darkness settled.

She was standing exactly as she had been, staring awestruck at the sunset. He followed her gaze and all other thoughts left him. It was beautiful. The orange faded into pink so delicately that the glaring red ball was calmed into a soft shade lest it break the peace the sky had formed.

A beep sounded, breaking the moment.

He glanced down at his watch. Time to go.

But before he left he snuck one last glance at the girl admiring the sunset, unaware of the boy in the tree above.

(A/N : Hope you enjoyed ^~^ this one shot is the base for a fanfic soon to come. The concept is the same as Miraculous (with the two main heroes, a "Master" (the turtle Kwami in Miraculous) and a few other heroes (like the moth and bee miraculouses) . This is my first story on this website so I'm still not sure how everything works so any pointers would be appreciated :) props if you spot the Miraculous !
