Bat Flavoured

#

For his second Halloween at Hogwarts, Harry was given a package of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, Halloween Edition, by his friend, Ron's older brother, Charlie. It had arrived in the mail that morning in the Great Hall along with all the owls and Harry was very excited to receive a gift from Charlie. Charlie Weasley was the eldest Weasley son and they didn't get to see much of him because the dragon-tamer lived far away in Romania. However, he often wrote letters to his younger brother Ron and sometimes sent gifts by Owl.

Harry felt very flattered that Charlie Weasley had thought of him in his letter and attached two packages of Bernie Bott's Beans, one for Ron and one for him.

Ron handed him over his package and Harry grinned as he stared at the familiar packaging except that it had bats and ghouls printed on it and green-orange-purple-white-and-black coloured beans.

"You reckon there will be Zombie flavoured beans?" Ron asked with a worried frown as he opened his package and held up a beige coloured one that looked suspiciously, like an Egyptian mummified pharaoh.

Harry held up an orange coloured bean. "Well, I hope this is pumpkin flavoured." Harry smiled before he popped it into his mouth.

Ron watched as his friend chewed it for a few seconds before scrunching up his face in disgust. "What? Which one was it?"

Harry spat out the orange, half-chewed bean. He grimaced. "It was - I think, I've really never tasted it before - pus flavoured."

Ron made a sound of disgust. "Blimey that's gross! They really have some nerve putting that flavour in." But then the red-haired boy popped one of the purple beans in his mouth and chewed it.

Ron grinned and stuck out his tongue, which was stained purple from the candy. "Bat flavoured. Delicious." The boy smiled.

Harry scratched at his head. "How do you know what bat tastes like?" he asked in genuine confusion.

Ron looked dumbfounded for a moment before remembering his friend grew up with muggles. He patted Harry on the shoulder. "Sorry, of course you wouldn't know, but my mum makes the best bat flavoured pies at home. Next time you visit, I'll be sure to ask her to make you some!"

Harry felt his stomach turn. "Uh...that's okay Ron..."

The two boys laughed and went back to eating their Halloween candies and treats as Dumbledore arrived in the Great Hall and snapped his fingers. The whole school went wild as witch-candy floss, pumpkin jack-o'-lantern fudge cakes and chocolate tombstones appeared on everyone's plates. "Let the Halloween feast, begin!"
