An Angel On Christmas
It was a cool winter day in Waycross of December of 2012. I was staying with Melanie who had taken ill a few weeks back. She was now weak and needed help. As I walked downstairs I found her trying to set up the tree. Unfortunately she was shaking from weakness.
"Aunt Mel do you need help?" I asked.
"Yeah that would be lovely. Whoa." She said weakly as her legs gave away.
"I've got you." I said catching her. As I help her to the couch I noticed how weak she looked. She was wearing the Weak outfit and she seemed skinnier and boney. Her face was sunken in and her skin clung to her bones making her tattoos look distorted. Her hair clung to her head and the belly was bulbous with baby weight.
"I can't even stand on my own anymore. I feel like my life is being sucked out by this sickness." She said sadly but weakly .
"Hey Aunt Mel listen to me. I look at you and you know what I see? My aunt who is a strong woman." I said.
"Thank you Angel I needed that." She said weakly.
"What's family for?" I asked warmly.
"Angel what am I going to do with this baby? I can't do this on my own." She said weakly rubbing the belly.
"What am I chop liver?" I'll be here to help." I said.
"Angel I feel a bit dizzy." She said weakly. She spasmed harshly. Then her hand went to the belly. She frowned and sobbed. She was sad; it was obvious the baby had kicked.
"Angel it kicked, what am I gonna do?" She sighed weakly.
"You'll be ok Aunt Mel." I replied hugging her.
"Angel I'm scared." She said weakly.
"I know Aunt Mel, I am too." I said hugging her.
"Angel thank you I needed that hug." She said weakly.
"I just don't want to loose an awesome aunt like you." I sobbed. At that point I broke down in tears. She sat up weakly and beckoned me closer. Then she took me in her arms and hugged me tightly as she could. She hugged me for a moment then her arms finally gave out.
"Angel, everything's alright, yes everything's fine." She said weakly.
"Aunt Mel do not pull a Mary Magdalene on me." I said.
"Well it's true and I'm just trying to make you smile Angel." She said weakly.
