Chapter 1- A penguin meets a fox
I was watch Batman the animated series on the Hub when I created this; it was the episode whee the penguin decides to change his ways, but ends up getting played by some rich woman. I felt bad for the penguin so I decided to make a fiction based on a new friendship with one of my favorite Oc's Shadow Fox. I also decided to redo this story while I only had 6 chapters. I realize Shadow's personality didn't mesh well with the background she has. So I tweaked it a bit. Now, ONWARD TO THE BATTLE FIELD!
"Alright pups let's try not to get the cops involved tonight, huh?" Said young woman, no older than her late teens with black hair. She wore a big black hat and trench coat as she stood in front of the Gotham City museum with two odd looking partners. a massive grey wolf with a spiked collar and small black fox with a white tipped tail.
"Yes, Miss Shadow." the small fox as she stood to the left of the woman now known as Shadow. A large wild looking mutt with a spiked collar stood to the right of her.
"Spike, you remember you post?" Shadow asked, the wolf—spike—nodded.
"Kitty?" she asked, the fox also nodded. Shadow smirked.
"Alright pups let's rob this city blind." She said, taking off the coat and hat to reveal black fox ears and a bushy black tail.
"Not so fast foxy." A disembodied voice said, Shadow turned to see a man, probably about her age dressed in red tights and cape with an 'R' on his chest and wearing a mask. Shadow cocked an eyebrow.
"And just who are you supposed to be?" she scoffed, the masked boy glared.
"I'm Robin; and you Foxy are under arrest." He shouted pointing at Shadow.
"Oh, is that how it is? What a laugh; Spike." She said, looking to her dog. Spike stepped in between Shadow and the masked boy. He let out a growl, baring his teeth.
"Now normally, I'd take you on myself, but I'm a tad strapped for cash and well...girl's gotta eat." shadow then looked to her pet, "I want you to take good care of this guy Spike, Kitty and I are going on ahead." she said as she turned around and went running off toward the museum. "Have fun."
"Geeze, way to leave the dirty work to a dog." He said looking down at Spike, who just stood there and growled. The masked boy gave it a look, "Is this thing going to do anything?"
"Oh I assure you, little boy, I'll be sure to put on a good show." Spike said, The boy took a jump back.
"It can talk!" he shouted, Spike smirked.
"And much more." He said, then ran at the boy , lunging and knocking him down and was now on top of him.
"You little boy, are going to be taught a lesson when it comes to vigilante justice." Spike then said, growling. Then stopped, sniffing the air, he then backed off.
"You're a clever little human pup aren't you." He growled, then turned running off toward the museum that Shadow and Kitty ran to.

"Oh, look at all the lovely jewels!" Shadow exclaimed, walking up to a class container filled with rare gems, "Here kitty, kitty."
Kitty ran up to Shadow, hopping onto the container, wagging her tail.
"Be a good fox-dog and open the case for me." Shadow said, Kitty nodded and began using her claws to cut through the glass. She stopped however when she saw a strange shadow loom over them. Shadow turned to see a man dressed in a bat costume. She let out a growl.
"Just how many men in tights am I going to see tonight?" she growled, showing her own fangs, the man stepped closer.
"You seem new in town, so I'll inform you. I have zero tolerance for petty thieves." He said, Shadow growled. "Turn yourself in now and I'll make things easy for you."
"And you are?"
"Batman, now put the jewels down and come quietly." Batman commanded. Shadow laughed.
"Batman? That a joke? The name's Shadow Fox." She said as she gave Batman the finger, "And boy are you in for a big surprise if you think you're gonna stop me."
Batman reached for his utility belt and grabbed his baterang, when Spike came up from behind and pounced on him. Shadow and Kitty smiled.
"Good boy Spike, now let's get outta here." Shadow said, grabbing Kitty in her arms and smashing the container with her fist, and setting off the alarm. Spike, still on top of Batman leapt off, and running up to Shadow as she grabbed a fist full of rare gems and ran off towards a window, opening it.
"Better luck next time; Mr. Bat." She laughed, Batman looked up.
"You can't jump from here! We're on the 5th floor!" He shouted, Shadow laughed, then she and spike jumped when Batman came after her. When Batman thought they had leapt to their doom up they both flew up with a pair of real bat wings. She flew off only to have Robin tailing her from below.
"Batman, I'm going after the girl." He said through the communicator on his motorbike.
"Alright, don't let her get away." Batman said, then ran off toward the batmobile.
Shadow, thinking she was in the clear slowed a bit in her flight. Spike who was flying next to her, sporting his own pair of hideous wings, growled.
"I wouldn't slow down now, Shadow, you've got company." He said, Shadow looked back, see the boy wonder tailing her from the ground.
"These people just can't take a hint!" Shadow shouted, then began flying faster.
"Oh no, you're not getting away that easy." Robin shouted, pulling out a gun, and shot a long chord that wrapped around Shadow's legs, he then screeched to a halt. Causing Shadow to crash to the ground, dropping both her bag of gems and Kitty, Shadow glared as Robin stepped closer to her. She then growled, and like an injured animal began swiping at Robin when he got closer, he took a step back.
"You back off creep! One more step closer and I'll take your masked head off!" she shouted, growling as she did so.
"Spike! Take Kitty and my bag and take off! I'll catch up later!" She shouted up to spike who was still in the air. He nodded then swooped down, Kitty jumped onto his back and Spike grabbed the bag. They then flew off, leaving Shadow with Robin.
"You sure are quite the freaky lookin thief aren't you? You act more wild than your weird pets." Robin said, Shadow growled.
"You think I'm wild now? Don't under estimate me! I'll do to you what I did to the Lachrymose Police!" she shouted, baring her fangs.
"What on earth is going on out there?" Shouted a grumpy voice, Shadow and Robin turned to their attention to a somewhat portly man wearing a suit and monocle on one eye holding an umbrella.
"This doesn't concern you Penguin." Robin said, Oswald Cobblepot narrowed his eyes at the boy, as he began to walk closer to Shadow.
"Not so fast bird boy." He said, aiming his umbrella at Robin, and shooting off a round towards his feet as a warning. Robin jumped back and narrowed his eyes at the Penguin.
"Are you saying you're partners with this girl?" He asked. Penguin frowned but never put down his umbrella.
"Hardly. I have no idea who this girl is, however any enemy of the bat and the bird..." He trailed off as he shot another round. while the two were distracted she cut herself loose of the cord and launched herself at Robin, who moved to the side to dodge her. Shadow let out a growl as she turned quickly to face Robin, who quickly realized he was out numbered as he was caught between a wild animal and a penguin. He held up his hands.
"Hmph, alright. You win this round Penguin." He said as he glared at Shadow, "You and your weird partner."
The two locked eyes as Robin made his way towards his motorbike. Shadow watched him like a dog that was contemplating its next move and Robin couldn't help but admit to himself, just how wild she seemed, with her tail furrowed and ears pinned back and her doglike fangs that she made sure to bare at him. It was completely contrary to Penguin who seemed to be helping her. She kept her silver eyes on him until he was on the bike and sped off. Once gone Shadow's tail relaxed and she let out a sigh.
"Fancy umbrella; but you realize now you're an accessory to my escape." She asked looking up at him. The Penguin shrugged.
"Trust me little girl you wouldn't be my first crime." He said, as he moved to step toward the girl, who's back was still toward him. He was stopped however, by her pets; Spike and Kitty who dropped from the sky between the duo.
"Don't you dare touch Shadow." Kitty growled, Shadow placed a hand on her fox-dog's head, petting her a bit.
"Relax you two, I hardly think the old man would go through all the trouble just to hurt me now." She said, then narrowed her silver eyes at him, "ain't that right?"
Penguin's eye ticked at the sound of the girl's horrible grammar. It was clear to him that she didn't come from good stock and were he to hazard a guess he'd say she was on the run from more than just the bat. As for what he didn't know, nor did he care.
"I think it best we make quick work of him Shadow. The less witnesses we have the better." The grey wolf, Spike, growled as his fur stood on end to make his already massive physique seem even larger. Penguin glared at the wild dog, he was about to make a comment when Shadow herself plopped her hand heavily on the wolf's head.
"I ain't killed nobody in all the time we've been a pack, I ain't bout to start tonight. Now that's enough of that." She said growled, then turned her attention to Penguin and noticed she was just a bit taller than he was. She looked down at him with slight amusment. "thanks for the save, a trip to the jailhouse itdn't my idea of a good time."
"Indeed," agreed Oswald still appalled by her manner of speaking. However, still he took off his hat as he introduced himself with a gentlemen's bow, "Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot."
"I don't think it's very wise to be letting your guard down around this man." Spike growled. Oswald narrowed his eyes at the talking canine. This one was clearly a breed all his own, the fact that he was a talking wild animal aside—one say and heard a lot of strange things in gotham after all—Spike seemed to come from a whole other world than his master. Wherever did these three come from?
"Cobblepot, Cobblepot, sounds familiar." Shadow repeated aloud as she tapped her chin with a pale finger and looked down at the well-dressed criminal.
"It had better, I'm a Gentleman of Crime you see, one of high society and quality taste." Oswald said, Shadow looked up at what she assumed to be his house which was quite large and expensive looking. she cocked an eyebrow, intrigued.
"And an ego to boost." Spike said dryly.
"Sit boy." Shadow ordered, Spike huffed but did what he was told. "High-society eh?"
"That would be correct." Oswald said, "And should I assume you also have a name? Or should I just refer to you as 'that thief girl?"
Shadow frowned and shifted her weight to one foot and jutted her hip out in a stand offish stance as she placed her hands on her hips. "And if I aint got one?"
"I highly doubt that." Oswald stated with a raised eyebrow, "Even gotham's lowest gutter trash has a name."
"Name's Shadow Fox." She said crossing her arms over her chest. Oswald narrowed his eyes.
"While normally I wouldn't mind the use of an alias, seeing as how many of Gotham's rogues have them, It doesn't make for a very good impression." He explained, "Especially when someone saves you."
"We didn't ask for your help tubs." Kitty barked from a top Spike's back. Oswald scowled at the talking fox.
"Not asked, and yet still benefited from it." He said then sighed when he realized he wasn't going to get anywhere with it, "Very well then. As a gentleman I would have in invite you inside, the night air is quite cold this time of year in Gotham, and with your lack of clothing I'm sure you must be freezing."
Shadow looked down at her dress. It was a backless black dress that covered most of her important parts, however left a lot less to the imagination with her tail hiking it up and exposing her upper thighs. Truth was, this was normal for her, with her ears, tail, and wings (which at the moment had receded back into body.), she didn't have much choice in clothing. She gave the penguin a strange look.
"Eh?"
"Just come inside." Oswald said a bit annoyed. Shadow shrugged.
"You don't mind dogs do you?" she asked, picking up her bag as Spike, with Kitty on his head, walked up to her. Oswald shook his head.
"That's good." She said then followed him inside.
~0~
"Wow, nice place ya got here Osy." Shadow said, looking around at the décor. It was mostly bird related things, but all the same she was very impressed.
"Please, make yourself at home. Any enemy of the Batman and his boy wonder is a friend of mine." Oswald said, Shadow gave a confused look.
"Batman?" She asked.
"You're obviously new to Gotham." Oswald stated, Shadow huffed then plopped herself on his couch.
"Gee, what was your first clue?" She asked sarcastically. Oswald looked at her unamused by her sarcasm. she sighed, "Lachrymose city. Only got one weirdo in a costume there, and she's as much as a joke as that boy in tights."
"Says the woman who was nearly taken to Arkhem Asylum." Oswald said, Shadow sat up, letting out a low growl.
"Hey! I was caught off guard! Didn't think I'd have to deal with two freaks in costume. I just have to deal with one person and her mutt back there." She said, then jumped up and walked around, turning her back on Oswald.
"Yaknow you're probably the only person I met, who isn't very shocked by my appearance. This the norm around here or something?" she asked, walking toward a very large painting. Oswald moved closer.
"As a fellow misshapen person myself I'm not at all surprise when I see a child with a birth defect." He said. Shadow laughed.
"Birth defect…right." She said bitterly, then quickly changed the subject. "You got some expensive and rare shit in here don't ya Osy-boy." She said looking over her shoulder at Oswald who narrowed his eyes.
"Please don't call me that, It's Oswald. Not Osy." He said, then noticed Shadow's bag, which happened to be a leather handbag, and a very expensive one at that.
"I see you've got some taste yourself Shadow Fox." He said. Shadow turned her full attention to him and placed a hand on her hip.
"Actually that bag is a knock off; but the things inside, I promise ya, they ain't fake." She said, her ears and tail twitching simultaneously. Oswald cringed at the girl's improper english. However, being a very curious person at that moment, reached for the bag, only to nearly get his hand bitten off by Spike.
"Normally I'd gut anyone who'd try to look through my things, but since I owe ya one." Shadow laughed as she plopped back down in her previous seat. Oswald picked up the bag, seeing the gems inside.
"Impressive. For a Thief." he said, going into defensive mode. Shadow's ears folded over, in annoyance.
"Best one around, you can chill though, I ain't gonna steal from the guy who saved my ass." She said, then a thought came to her mind.
"Say, I gotta idea. Why don't you and me become friend's with benefits?" She asked with a sly grin. Spike and Kitty gave their master a look. Oswald did the same, he was all too aware of what that phrase meant and was almost horrified that someone so young would just offer themselves like that. It made him wonder what sort of upbringing the girl really had.
"I don't think so." He said. Shadow frowned, cocking an eyebrow.
"What? The ears and tail don't do it for ya?" She asked. Oswald rubbed his eyes with his thumb and forefinger. He wasn't even going to respond to the question. Shadow crossed her arms over her chest and rolled her eyes. "Fine by me, I didn't really wanna do it, with some old guy anyway. But I ain't stupid. No way you're just gonna let me stay here for free. So how's bout a partnership or whatever?"
"Partner you say?" Oswald asked, thankful the conversation moved on. Shadow nodded.
"I'm still new, obviously, but I know how to break into a place without leaving so much as a trace." She said, "and you know more bout this city than me, more specifically you know more about that creepy old man in tights."
"Sorry little girl, I've only pared up with the Joker, and that usually never turns out well." Oswald said.
"That's fine, I'm sure being in a partnership with you, would result in Shadow's wings being clipped no doubt." Spike growled.
"Yeah." Kitty said. Shadow walked over to her dogs and let out a growl.
"Hey! Who's the alpha here?" she barked, reminding the two who was in charge. She then turned to Oswald.
"Whattya say? We can split the gets fifty-fifty." She offered, "Plus having a few guard dogs around would probably help ya keep the place safe from…others."
Oswald thought this over a moment in his head. Whilst it could end in prophets for him, he really didn't feel as if some young hatchling could be able to take on Batman and still escape, not to mention the bit of awkwardness of her offering him her body. However if she was as good as she claimed it might be a really good deal, even as unrefined as she seemed to be. So, he decided to take a chance.
"Miss Fox, you have got yourself a deal." He said kissing her hand in the gentlemanly way. Shadow's ears slanted.
"Ok, ya gotta stop doin' that it's givin me the creeps." She said the fur on her tail standing on end. Oswald narrowed his eyes.
"You're not accustomed to gentlemen are you?" he asked, Shadow's ears perked.
"If by gentlemen you mean, back alley gang wannabes and gang bangers, then yeah." She said. Oswald sighed.
Yay, 1st chapter complete! What'd you think? Yes Shadow Fox, Spike, and Kitty are all OC's I've never used in a fiction. Clearly they're a world apart from Oswald and his upper crust ways. I hope you enjoy them as the story continues.
